Editor: Jeff Roberson

Guests: Anette Roberson, Bob Overmyer, Kyle Young

Sergeants: Bob Bush has made it a personal cause to collect enough fines to pay for an Amtryke during his term. So, to that end many fines were handed out and paid in. Late Fines were handed out for pot winning fines, birthday fines, proud AMBUC fines (or not being a proud AMBUC, as the case may be). This editor got fined for misstating the date and cost of the golf tournament. Bob is also having paid announcements for various happenings within our community. Reigns of Hope will have their fall auction and fund raiser at the Fair Grounds on October 29th. Jay reminded us about the upcoming Casino Night for Holy Cross.

Announcements: The Golf Tournament is on Friday October 14th at the Highlands. So, we will NOT be meeting at the Town Club on the 14th for breakfast but at the Highlands.

Program: Bob Overmyer talked about his work at Sonoco. The plant first opened in 1909 and has been recycling paper for over 100 years. He talked about the savings over the years of greening up the Hutchinson Plant. When the plant first opened they used a tremendous amount of water and gas. Today they operate at better than the average plant on energy and water usage. In 2007 they won an award for energy reduction. They have an excellent strategic partnership here in town to recycle our post-consumer paper.

Drawings: 50/50 for $36 was won by Scott Saylor. Duke Wiggins knew the newsletter question and won $40. So, the next newsletter question is worth $5.

Newsletter question: In what year was Reno County organized?

BIG HAT FRIDAY

Editor: Jeff Roberson

Guests: Rion Rhoades

Sergeants: Dave got fined for sneaking out. Big hatters who didnt wear their hats got fined. John Knipp got fined for not being a big hat. Everyone got to pay a fine because we went before the Sergeants in line. Who are those guys, anyway? Fred got fined for winning the pot last week. Fine Buying: Harley complemented the Ice Cream Booth managers for a good job, and he also complemented everyone for a job well done.

Announcements: Fred says we have six tubs of ice cream left. Guy Gann says that the golf tournament is October 14th and not the 4th as I incorrectly wrote last week. In addition the fees are $50 and not $15, again as I wrote last week. So, the golf tournament is October 14th and the fee is $50. Jay reminded us about the upcoming casino night on October 22nd for Holy Cross Schools.

Program: Coach Rion Rhoades talked about the Football program at Hutchinson Community College. This is his fifth season with HCC. He enjoys rebuilding jobs and has enjoyed turning HCCs Football program around. He also talked about some of his concerns with the conference that HCC is in. Some of the smaller schools are struggling and he is concerned that they may cut their Football programs as a cost savings measure. So, to that end he is working to see how he can help keep the conference viable in the future. One of the changes is a change to the squad size. This could help the struggling programs who may have signed a kid who isnt play to his potential. He concluded with a question and answer session.

Drawings: Terry Brigman won the $23. Eric Steinles name was drawn for the news letter question, but he wasnt there. So, next week it is up to $40.

Guest: Bill Hermes

Sergeants: Paul Brown won the 50/50 pot last week with fake tickets. There is some speculation that Paul didnt actually purchase the tickets, but well leave that up to a judge to decide. Since there was some question about the authenticity of his tickets, he was fined for the win. Curtis got fined for almost knocking over the name badges this morning. Duke got fined for, well, being Duke. Others got fined for various reasons. We had a few late comers, Randall, Christie and Ward, so they had to pay a tidy fine. Brad decided to raise some more fine money by asking questions about old TV shows. For example, what happened on September 23rd, 1977? Farrah Fawcett was replaced on Charlies Angels by Cheryl Ladd. The first broadcast of Marcus Welby, M.D. was on September 23rd, 1957. Needless to say, many fines were paid and few accurate answers were provided. There were some good wrong answers, though. Jeff Brewer bought a fine to announce his first Grand Son being born!

Announcements: The AMBUCS golf classic is October 4th, the entrance fee is $15, see Guy Gann for more information. Jim Jacobs thanked everyone for the help at the booth this year. Fred also echoed Jim and thanked everyone too. Fred said that we still have some tubs of ice cream left to purchase. The cost is $25 per tub. Jay reminded everyone about the Casino night for Cause for Paws. Doug Foss said that the Circles of Hope was having information meetings on September 29th and October 6th if anyone is interested. Curtis reminded us about the upcoming Rod Run.

Program: Bill Hermes talked about Bob Johnsons and the Reno County Youth Shelter and Juvenile Detention Centers. The center is located at 219 W 2nd. They first opened in 1983 and moved into their current location in 1989. They offer services not only to Reno County, but to a wide area surrounding our county with the exception of Sedgwick County. If you or an organization is interested in tours, they are happy to give them. You can contact Bill Hermes for more information and to schedule a tour.

Sergeants: Fines were handed out for not helping with the 50/50 tickets. Many AMBUCS passed the tickets and the bucket without chipping in and helping out. The Sergeants seemed to think that this was a problem. The Sergeants also wondered why some of us were at the Town Club and not helping Duke unload ice cream, so we were fined for that. Brad decided to sell tickets and so there was a 50/50 drawing.

Program: We did have an excellent program from Steve Harmon and Steve Conard about the 1929 Flood in Hutchinson.

Drawings: 50/50 was $19 and was won by our very own Paul Brown.

Ryan Thompson was chosen for the newsletter drawing; however, he was being a good AMBUC and helping unload ice cream.

Sergeants: Due to a misunderstanding there was no program today. So, Darrin Wicks got fined a $1 since we should have had a program. In Darrins defense we usually meet at the Ice Cream Booth on this Friday. The Sergeants were in charge for a bit longer than usual this morning, extracting fines for not having pins or cards among other things. We did have a few slots to fill for the booth which were quickly filled. Jay got fined for failing to mention AMBUCS in his radio spot. Scott mentioned that the TUIT may be resurrected in some form for fall awareness which was met with some booing of the crowd. Today was Diannes last day with us. She is retiring and apparently her husband is a member of the Civitan club and he thinks she should go to his meetings. We suggested that he become an AMBUC and that she is welcome to visit.

Announcements: Things are up and rolling at the Ice Cream Booth. A multitude of waffle cones had waffle bowels have already been made-up. Jay again is looking for help for the Cause for Paws Casino night coming up on September 24th. Please see Jay to sign up. If you are new to the club and want to learn how the Casino works, this is an on-the-job training opportunity. All you need to do is sign up and show up with black slacks and a white shirt.

Board Meeting: The Board held a meeting this morning. Out of the meeting Curtis visited with us on how we can increase membership with our club. Junior memberships were discussed as a way to help out the Young Professionals become members. If you have thoughts and ideas regarding membership, please feel free to e-mail, call, or otherwise harass Curtis with your ideas. The Fall meeting in Oklahoma City again was brought up. As of Fridays meeting no one has signed up to go. If you are interested in representing our club please contact Curtis.

Drawings: 50/50 for $32 was won by Jim Jacobs.

Dennis Reiser was picked for the newsletter and he didnt know the answer. So, next week it is up to $25.
