The TUIT remains with Bill Long so expect it to return well-dressed.
Sgt. Tom made his last appearance with Asst. Sgt. Steve Harmon in tow. The heartless membership applauded the fact that it was Toms last week. Now that he was motivated, Sgt. Tom separated the members from their cash.
Jack was fined for being too happy. The D.B. Society claimed as its members Fred C., Jeff B., Rod F., Dave S., and Don G. Tony and Tom S. were fined for being patriotic twins. Pat F. was fined for no pin in the Central Bank & Trust ad. Darren W., Dan P. and Jay P. received the Ed tax.
Then Sgt. Tom did the unthinkable, he broke years of AMBUC tradition and fined the incoming Sgt. at Arms, Jim K. and Larry S. (Bring your PDA to calculate the fines for poor Tom next year!) Tom Stanton then bought a fine to announce the birth of his new grandson, Mason.
President JoAnn Williams introduced our speaker, fellow AMBUC and Kansas State Representative, Mark Treaster. Mark serves on the following legislative committees: Taxation, Transportation, Economic Development and Wildlife and Parks.
210 bills were passed during this legislative session. One of the more noteworthy bills provides a tax exemption for business machinery and equipment purchased after July 1. However, the legislature is providing state funding to local taxing units to avoid erosion of the tax base from the granting of the exemption. Eminent domain was also restricted by the legislature to avoid the problems recognized in a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision involving economic development. Concealed carry of firearms was passed over the veto of the governor, but campaign reform did not survive the governors veto. Mark appreciates the support from the AMBUCS and looks forward to his re-election campaign.
Club Announcements
THANK YOU, HUTCHINSON AMBUCS! Jan Ebmeier, teacher of Austin Cozell, brought a thank you message from Austins mother for his new AMTRYKE. Austin loves his new bike and his new independent mobility. When given a choice, Austin chooses his AMTRYKE as his favorite activity. Ms. Ebmeier relayed the excitement of Austins schoolmates who lined the schools hallways and cheered as he rode his AMTRYKE past them.
