PROGRAM:Program Manager Randy Henderson introduced Ron Gould, Assistant Director of the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC), and Mark Bomgardner, Technical Specialist at KLETC, as our guest speakers.
The Kansas Legislature established the Center south of Hutchinson at the old air base in 1968. KLETC is a part of Kansas University, but does not receive funds from KU or tax revenues from the State of Kansas. Court docket fees are the sole source of funding for KLETC.
Located in the south central area of the state, KLETC is accessible for all regions. Since 1969, there have been approximately 11,000 graduates from the training center. 7 out of 10 law enforcement officers in Kansas are graduates of KLETC.
Programs at the center include reciprocity training for officers coming from other states, orientation for new sheriffs, annual law enforcement training of forty hours, terrorism training, driving instruction and firearms training. The campus consists of a four-story dormitory, classrooms and a new administration and learning center building. KLETC is still in need of further classroom space and a driver training course.
