GUESTS

Louis Bruce, Warden of HCF and guest of Keith Schroeder.

Dont forget! October and November are AMBUCS Branding Time!

TUIT REPORT and fines

Yes, we have a report! Monte has returned with the circular pest.

(Um … The Publisher wants to know, was that the Full Monte?)

But first, Monte proudly announces the arrival of a new baby boy

on September 10. At 7 lbs. 6 oz., the baby is doing fine.

Now to the fines!

Rick Mitchell and Paul Brown were fined for not asking about the TUIT at the Chamber After Hours. Don Grossardt, Scott Horton and Bob Bush (because of Ann) were fined for not asking at another chamber event.

Monte bestowed the TUIT upon Rod Fry.

PROGRAM:

Keith Schroeder introduced our program, Louis Bruce, Warden of the Hutchinson Correctional Facility.

The facility is comprised of three locations; the Central Unit formerly known as the Reformatory, the East Unit on Halstead and the South Unit on Avenue G. HCF is the second largest employer in Reno County with 650 on staff and 1850 total workers in the units.

The warden started his corrections career at Lansing and was part of a reform movement within the corrections system. Considering that 95% of the inmates return to the street, it is important to provide them with the tools needed to avoid a return visit. Economics has a lot to do with recidivism. Inmates need educational programs, employment, adequate housing and a support system to continue on parole after release.

The institution provides numerous activities for the inmates to keep them occupied. This approach has shown positive results with a drop in the recidivism rate from 60% to 45%. The Kansas Correctional System is rated in the top ten of the nations prisons.
