TUIT REPORT

Im sure Tom Hymer has amassed quite a list of forgetful souls during the past three weeks

PROGRAM:

For our 2nd and final week on the road, we met at Disability Supports of the Great Plains at 4000 N. Monroe for our meeting with Knackies of Inman catering our breakfast again.

Jo Ann Williams introduced Virginia LaForce, Case Manager and John Sanders, Operations Manager of the facility. Virginia explained that here in Hutchinson they serve approximately 40 adult residents in-house and 30 adults in their own homes. When they first opened, all their clients were wheelchair bound with very severe impairments. Today, they are able to help a greater variety of impairments such as Cerebral Palsy, Downs Syndrome and more severe brain injuries.

Staffing costs here are much higher due to the special needs of the clients. Disability Supports offers supported living, activities, day services and supports, self-directed supports and case management. Day programs for clients include using computers for vocational instruction such as printing the brochures and business cards for the facility to fun activities such as special chat rooms.

Our club recently donated the funds to purchase a special computer for one of the clients who needed one with specialized software. They emphasize a FUN atmosphere for their clients with a multitude of activities inside and outside the facility including annual group vacations. In the not so distant future they hope to build a new facility close to their clients homes on Coventry Court located North of Hutchinson Hospital.

Disability Supports also operates a facility in McPherson.
