PROGRAM:

Jo Ann Williams introduced Mary Smith and Connie Clark, both board members of Reins of Hope Therapeutic Riding, Inc. Reins of Hope is a non-profit program that seeks to offer children and adults with physical, mental and or emotional disabilities the benefits of therapeutic riding. It was great to be back visiting their facility and see how they are continuing to grow their program.

Jo Ann presented Mary and Connie with a donation form our club in the amount of $2,500 to help support the efforts that Reins of Hope is making to help those individuals with special needs that they serve.

Carol Burgess helped to develop the program in March 1995 with a handful of students and borrowed space to their present facility and more than 50 students. Carol retired from the program as President of the Board in January 2004. The arena is named for Roy Coffey who was instrumental in raising the funds needed to purchase the 20 acres of land that they own. John Baldwin who was a member of the Board of Directors was the driving force behind making their building a reality. A trail, garden and future outdoor arena have been named in Johns honor. The present facility allows for a maximum of 10 horses, which they currently have. They operate March through December and are closed during the winter months. Jane Harder is the current President of the board and director of the facility.

continual areas of need are student scholarships, horse sponsorship and specialized equipment. They always need volunteers to assist with their riding lessons and many other areas of the program.
