TUIT REPORT

Randy Henderson kept the Tuit in Jail much of the week, and even offered to keep it another week. The vote was unanimous, but ignored. Duke, Scott, and Bob donated for not asking. Because Bob Bush was the first to vote in favor of Randy keeping the tuit, he was blessed with it. Be sure and think of the tuit every time you raise a glass this week.

PROGRAM:

Randall Haltom introduced Captain Katrina Gier Lewison, a Blackhawk Helicopter pilot in the Army, and recently returned from her tour of duty in Iraq. She graduated from West Point in 2000 and from Buhler High School prior to that.

She presented a slide show tour of the parts of Iraq she had served in, and gave specifics regarding her units duties. After flying numerous missions as a Platoon Leader, she took a job as an S-4 Logistics Officer. This meant she was in charge of employing many local people as laborers in the repair and restoration of the buildings stripped by Sadams troops. She had never been an employer before, so she had to learn about getting paid employees to perform their duties. Many had been used to not having to do anything under Sadam. Most of the locals are happy to see the US troops and the help they provide. Many are not the religious fanatics we hear so much about. Her unit has built 20 schools and medical clinics, including all the furnishings. The kids are thrilled to have a school to attend, but there were still shortages of teachers. Many parents have wound up teaching, for no pay. (almost sounds like home) She told of seeing a young Iraqi wearing a t-shirt that said Someone in Kansas Loves You. Local Optometrist Doug Ball donated several hundred pairs of reading glasses, for use in the medical clinics.

It is still a very dangerous place to be, but our troops are doing a great job of exhibiting self-control. Their morale is fine; each soldier is concentrating on his job, not on the political war being waged in the media.

He collected the mandatory Presidential fine, and hit the Doug Foss Fund and the Jay Pitzer Fund. Maybe we could get Brad to be this regular every week.

TUIT REPORT

Pat Fallon took the tuit to Prescott, Arizona, where he had the tattoo removed. However, because the tuit was out of town, Pat paid an extra fine to make up for not collecting from all us suckers. In light of the recent vandalism, and being concerned for the tuit’s well-being, Pat passed it on to Sheriff Randy Henderson.

PROGRAM:

Scott Horton introduced Albert “Sonny” Beach, from Arkansas City.

Rather than making any kind of speech or presentation, Sonny spoke briefly of his life history, and then answered questions. He was born on a Dairy Farm nearly 75 years ago. He was not born with a handicap; he just doesn’t have any legs, and only one arm.

Sonny believes you are not handicapped unless you think you are. His life has been proof of this, as he started driving farm equipment at the age of 9, and continues operating large equipment to this day. He says he never found anything he couldn’t do, including running a rural trash route for 15 years, hauled dead animals for 20 years, and worked for GE for 26 and a half years. Sonny was the first handicapped person hired at that GE plant, and proved to be a harder worker than almost everyone.

Since he never had legs, he never missed them. Although he has tried prosthetics, he never liked them. He did like being able to grab hot metal while welding, but the artificial arm was uncomfortable.

His brother-in-law was a great encouragement, and partner in many businesses. They tried to start a trucking business, but the ICC didn’t think he could handle a big rig. During his college days, he designed and built a three-wheel cart, which he used until just recently. During one vacation, their car broke down, and Sonny decided to go see his brother-in-law while he was working on the car. It was 5 miles from their Motel to the shop, down hill. The speed limit was 35, and Sonny guesses he was doing 45 or better as he passed cars on his way into town. He wasn’t worried about his safety on the road; he just didn’t know how he was going to get stopped since there were no brakes on the cart.

Sonny has been married to his second wife for 25 years, and has raised 6 kids. She recently made him buy a Little Rascal Electric Cart, which he says will be his ruination. While it is true that he has slowed down a little, he still only knows how to work, all day everyday.

Ice Cream Committee Meeting: April 16, 6:15 AM

Elections: Vicki Fultz presented her slate of officers for this next year. After much discussion, and one correction, a motion was finally made by someone, and seconded by someone else, to approve the officer slate as presented. In one of the closest votes in the history of the Hutchinson Ambucs, the motion passed, in spite of many votes being disallowed due to hanging chads.

Membership: Greg West says many members are forgetting to sign in when attending breakfast, which is cheating your team out of valuable points. Speaking of the Contest, Fultz is kicking Steinle’s tail. However, Eric says his team has their opponent right where they want them, on top. You will have to check with Eric to find out exactly what he meant by that. Keep up the good work, bringing the guests and new members in.

T-Shirt Report: Bob Bush says today was the last chance for buying back your own mistakes. They are still counting small bills, so no report on profit yet.

Big Hat: Stan Macgirvin presented a star to Duke Wiggins for his Big Hat for recruiting Chris Johnson.

Lost and Found: The March 26th meeting, there was an envelope left on a table, which contained papers for the Community Service Committee. If you picked this up, please bring it to the next meeting.

More Membership: Long-time member Mark Becker was thanked for visiting a second time, and presented with a mug. Good thing we have enough mugs, huh Jay Pitzer?

FINES COLLECTED

Brad Thompson & Stan Macgirvin’s Excellent Toilet Adventure – These twin sons from different mothers began by failing to collect on an IOU from our President-Elect. Rod Fry skipped a committee meeting, and apparently Brad wants to write the newsletter. If he fines Dwight Fergusonagain, he just might have to. Greg West had a guest beat him to the meeting, but Guy Gann paid the fine for him. Several members made funeral arrangements on the spot, claiming they now had seen everything, and were ready to go. Cheryl Goodell was talking on her phone during introductions, but Nancy paid for her. Amy Craig was fined for not doing a darn thing, and no one would pay for her. Bob Bush got it for setting off the T-shirt Warehouse Alarm, and Randall Haltom and Jason Jones paid for being late. The far corner of the room paid several fines, but I have no idea why, since the Sergeant doesn’t speak very loudly, and had lost control of most of the room by then. They announced a pin and card tax, but I don’t think they actually made the rounds. Mark Becker was fined in advance of next week, when he won’t be fined, and Rod Fry was fined for a guest who did not make an appearance.

Purchased Fines – Sharla Meisenheimer says Tee It Up For Charity. April 19 at the Highlands, $85 per person, bring a team of 4, or be matched up that day, and help support any one of the ten Charities. Jessica Sadowsky thanked Vern Powers for MC’ing the Women’s Show last Saturday at the Fairgrounds.

NEXT MEETING

April 09: Randall Haltom is one excited Program Manager.

He has arranged for a special guest — a Hutchinson area native whom the major communications networks have had trouble booking … and keeping on their schedules. Randall says, “This should be a good program for bringing guests and introducing them to The Hutchinson Chapter of AMBUCS.”

She is Katrina Gier-Lewison the Blackhawk helicopter pilot whose parents have been sharing her letters home from Iraq for the past year. Those letters have appeared over the past year in the Hutch News. She is home this weekend, visiting her parents.

Well, not wanting to steal Randall’s fire or Katrina’s, we’ll just leave it at; be sure to be present and to bring a guest. This promises to be a very good and popular program.

GUESTS

TUIT REPORT

Lori Hopp tried to s-t-r-e-t-c-h the TUIT portion of the meeting by sporting a TUIT, which had garnered a tattoo this

past week and renamed it the Tattooit. Brad Thompson collected the necessary one-dollar for her to be able to pass it on but

also an additional dollar as a Sorry Tax for her sorry story and not having any names of others to collect money from.

Brad then helped her to select Pat Fallon to carry the TUIT this next week in hopes that Pat will be back then.

PROGRAM:

David Ross introduced Neal Allsup, Guest Conductor of the Reno County Choral Society. Neal informed us that the Choral Societys busy in final preparation of their 66th performance of G. F. Handels Messiah. This year it will be held in the Historic Fox Theatre on Palm Sunday, April 4th at 3:00 PM. There are still some tickets available in all 3 different price/seating arrangements. Our very own Duke Wiggins has been singing in the Messiah for approximately the last 25 years. Guest soloists this year include Charlene Ayers, soprano, Brian Stranghoner, tenor, Robin Rives McAdoo, alto and Glen Litke, baritone. The wonderful acoustics of the Fox will make this years event truly magnificent and memorable.

Club Announcements

McFarland Family: Eric Steinle announced that he and Doug Foss had taken it upon themselves to make Gabrielle and Milo McFarland both T-shirts from our tournament booth. They visited last week along with their brother Ross who was given an AmTryke and a Basketball tournament T-shirt.

T-Shirt Committee:Bob Bush said they were about half the number of misprints and left over shirts and hats than last years tournament operations. These items were available for sale today and again next week for $5.00 for shirts and $10 for polo and denim shirts and $2.50 for hats. A meeting will be held Tuesday night March 30th in the warehouse behind Central Printing to count inventory and finish printing the balance of the orders taken at the tournament.

Board Officers: Vicki Fultz announced her list of officers for the next club year. Those were Vicki Fultz, President. Jo Ann Williams, 1st Vice Pres., Scott Saylor, 2nd Vice Pres., Ward Davis, Secretary, Don Grossardt, Treasurer, Bob Bush, Sgt. At Arms and Lori Hopp, Larry Sloan, John Knipp and Jessica Sadowsky as Board Members at large.

Community Service Committee: After a second reading of the Community Service requests, a vote was then taken and all 4 items passed. Those items were: 1. Our club is providing 4 AmTrykes to children here in Kansas on the National Wish List. This was a change from 5 as Dodge City AMBUCS agreed to provide one to the girl in Jetmore. 2. A $500 contribution to be given to Mikayla Heddings towards an $11,000 special oxygen treatment in Kansas City to help with her CP (Another omission, I really did write all these up I just forgot to proof it after I typed it) 3. A $500 contribution to Special Olympics of Kansas as a Bronze level corporate sponsor. 4. A $500 contribution to Hutch./Reno Cty. Hawks Special Olympics with an additional $250 designated to sponsor additional children to attend the Special Olympics of Kansas competition.

FINES COLLECTED

Sgt. at Arms Brad Thompson along with assistance from Deputy Stan Macgirvin collected this weeks fines. Yours truly was fined for leaving out the comedy, I mean fine, portion of the newsletter last week. I did forget to type it and with Jack Maces help added it on Wednesday (It didnt matter to Brad and he fined me anyway). So, if you want the rest of the story its in the archive section. A hat with an upside down transfer was entered into evidence and Duke Wiggins was promptly fine. It was later announced that Duke did not ruin any shirts this year with upside down transfers. So, either the hat was a trumped up offense or he missed the hat portion of the training sessions. Eric Steinle was fined for being late. The rest of the fining session was collecting fines from all those in attendance that had not worked the tournament T-shirt fundraiser. Needless to say Brad knows how to increase our revenue.

An Attaboy was given to our own Tony Powers who, a couple weeks back, was driving down 30th and noticed an explosion. He stopped, and along with 2 other gentlemen from the neighborhood, broke into a home on fire at the corner of Independence Road and Catalina Dr. trying to locate anyone who might be inside. Finding no one home they left the smoke filled structure as the fire department arrived on the scene. No one was injured other than some minor smoke inhalation. One-half of the duplex suffered major damage and two pets were lost in the fire.

FINES COLLECTED

Well the BBB (that stands for Big Bad Brad not the Better Business Bureau) was back and collecting like crazy.

I think he was trying to make up for the time that he was gone. Since we initiated Denise Wiard by fining her first day

as a member, Brad Thompson decided that everyone at her table needed to be fined. Those included were Doug Foss,

Terry Brigman, Jay Pitzer, Amy Craig and yours truly. Steve Harmon was fined for not spilling the beans on Jeff Brewer

and from the threats he gave Steve the story must have been pretty good. Brad was hassling the Sheriff Randy Henderson

so bad that he actually tried to bribe Brad to go away for $2.00. John Knipp was fined just for being a Knipper

and of course Eric Steinle got his usual Presidential fine. Scott Saylor, Rick Mitchell and Darrin Wicks were fined

a liars tax. While Jessica Sadowsky was fined for killing Bambi with her blue bell and last but not least Tom Hymer

was fined for not listening.

TUIT REPORT

Nancy Ditges presented the most poetic and eloquent Tuit report in recent memory.

Tom Stanton and Keith Schroeder did well to ask about the Tuit.

Randy Henderson asked about the Tuit early, then offered

a Five for future infractions then explained the ins and outs of the Tuit.

When the Tuit was introduced to a relative, he remarked they dont do that at Civitans.

She talked to Brenda Janda on the phone, but Brenda failed to ask.

Lori Hopp failed to ask initially, but later remembered.

Nancy was explaining to an acquaintance what an AMBUC and TUIT were. The

acquaintance listened carefully and exclaimed I dated an SOB once, is that kind of the same.”

Nancy thought about it, and shook here head wryly.

Paul Brown managed to catch Nancy without the Tuit, that cost her.

Like a tornado to a trailer park,

Dennis Reiser

drew himself towards the Tuit again for a another week..

PROGRAM:

Randy Henderson introduced Rick Elliott and Justin Maxfield who displayed Tailey, the narcotics dog. Rick trained Tailey several years ago in preparation for drug detection assistance in a sheriffs department. When Taileys handler was activated for military duty, Rick was able to assist in placing Tailey with the Reno Co. Sheriffs Department on a temporary basis. Rick then trained Justin as a handler for Tailey. Tailey will be returned to northwest Kansas soon. The Reno County Sheriffs Department has secured funds to purchase a new dog.

TUIT REPORT

Dan Power returned with the Tuit. Both he and the Tuit were nicely tanned from a two week vacation. Dan explained how

the Tuit and the Threat level Orange in the airports made for some interesting conversations with the security screeners.

Dan visited the YMCA for a workout. Bumped into (not literally thank goodness) Jack Mace in his Speedo and

Goggles headed for the pool. Jack asked about the Tuit, Dan was busted. He said all he had on was his workout

pants with no pockets, therefore no place to put the Tuit, (Ambucs, insert your own crude joke here.)

He saw Paul Brown at Orschelns (supposedly getting his rubber boots and

six month supply of manure for the Court House. That would take a big truck).

Paul did not ask about the Tuit.

Duke Wiggins and Dan were racing down Main St in rush hour traffic, Duke didnt signal to the Tuit.

Dean Brigman didnt ask. Jeff Brewer missed it also.

Dan cheerfully asked if anyone else wanted the Tuit, no one stepped up, so Dan unloaded it on Rick Mitchell.

PROGRAM:

Larry Sloan presented the Buhler FFA chapter. Sponsor John Clark introduced members Merideth Kueck, Jenna Newsum, Tyler Rayl, Robby Gray, Nathan Parson and Cami Zahn.

The group performed a mock oration on Parlimentary Procedure. The members were thanked given a mug.
