association, since Lori visited with another Morton Salt employee. Bob Bush for his cheap e-mail auto

response that didnt ask. Lori gave it to John Knipp.

PROGRAM:

He also showed us a video clip of the 2004 6-A State Championship game against Olathe South that Hutch High won. FINES

Sgt. at Arms Bob Bush along with a real Sheriff, Randy Henderson, collected this weeks fines. Bob started off by giving Randy a new can of beer displaying the 1936 Budweiser logo, a special edition that will soon be available in stores. Were not sure if Bob was just getting in a free plug for his product or showing that the Sheriff could be bought for a beer. Scott Horton was fined for arriving late. Vicki Fultz was fined for last weeks introduction of Doug Foss as our District Manager instead of District Governor, which showed a total disrespect for the office. Jay Pitzer fined for not supplying any dirt since he is always in the know. Eric Steinle fined for not supplying dirt since he is an attorney and can always make something up. Eric also had Lori Hopp fined because she didnt run to answer an alarm that was sounding at Good Samaritan while they were both meeting last week working on the NJCAA work schedule. Lori tried to explain to Eric that a resident had probably just came unplugged. We now know that Eric has not spent much time visiting in a care facility. As you can probably tell, Bob was stretching things a bit since he didnt have much dirt as he had spent all his early coffee time running between the board and T-shirt committee meetings. But being the good Sgt. that he is, he had all the membership in attendance vote on whether they liked beer or wine the best following last weeks city council denial of Tony Powers request to open a winery on 30th Ave. Bob had those not voting paying $2 for being a communist and those who dont drink paying $3, since he likes communists better than prohibitionists. Needless to say it showed us that a man with a badge and gun can collect a lot of money quickly. Please bring dirt next week and volunteer to help the Sgt., its cheaper.

GUESTS

John Morrill with the Reno County Sheriffs Dept., our guest speaker

Scharon Merriman with Good SamaritanVillage, a guest of Brenda Janda

TUIT REPORT

Larry Sloan had several members fined for not inquiring about the TUIT. Larry was also fined for forgetting

to have it with him on one occasion. Since Lori Hopp pointed out to Larry at a basketball game with a

certain hand jester that he was number one, Larry gave it to her to tote this week.

PROGRAM:

Randy Henderson introduced John Morrill with the Reno County Sheriffs Department. John explained that prior to joining the department he was an Air Force officer working at the Pentagon reporting to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff intelligence information on selected targets. John showed us a photographic power point presentation about the Pentagon.

The presentation included background information on the building(s) itself as well as the fact that it is a Washington museum housing some 39 hallway display areas with many historical collections of art and artifacts. The ground breaking for the building was coincidentally 9/11/41. It was built in 1942-43 for just under $50 million and the building covers 29 acres with a 5-acre park in the center. There are between 25 and 30 thousand people who work there. Office space is rented to the different service branches by the square foot. It has been determined that the 9/11 incident was unplanned and the Pentagon was not the intended target. Approximately 10% of the building(s) were destroyed and 125 workers, service men and women lost their lives in the attack not including the 64 on board flight 77. A hall of Heroes meditation area will be erected near the site of the attack. Prior to 9/11, the building(s) were available to tour by escort but John was unsure what had changed since.

John ended his presentation explaining that a new Interrogation Tool had just become public information. The truth serum like beverage was code named Bud Crud and had several photos showing it in likely use. Bob Bushs photo kept appearing alongside these photos. In the end Bob was wearing a Miller hat and announcing it was Miller Time. Great job John! Unfortunately for the sheriffs department John will be leaving soon, taking a job with the State of Kansas as the new local alcohol and beverage control officer for Reno County.

While following the Wesley Towers van to the airport, this ex-fireman pointed out to the driver that his van was on fire. Jerry Maxfield with the Reno County Sheriffs Dept., our guest speaker

Chris Ginest with Brisk Transportation for a 2nd visit, a guest of Jim Kicklighter

Michael Prather with Anheuser-Busch, a guest of Bob Bush

TUIT REPORT

Eric Steinle finally made it back with the TUIT in hand and after carrying it for two weeks he had a few fines to levy.

For not asking he fined Larry Sloan, Steve Conard, Bob Bush, Paul Brown, Jeff Brewer, Cheryl Goodell,

Randall Haltom, Lori Hopp, Jay Pitzer, and Stan Macgirvin. There were several others that were not in attendance but they

made Bobs list. Tom Stanton caught Eric in court without the TUIT, so Eric had to pay too. Eric gave it

to Larry Sloan since he was the first person who failed to ask. Will you be first this week to forget?

PROGRAM:

Lori Hopp introduced Jerry Maxfield with the Reno County Sheriffs Department. Lori opened with a story about an encounter that she had had with a man who was being a bit too friendly and whose comments just didnt quite sit well with her. After a web check on KDOC.org KASPER site, she found he was listed there as a registered sex offender with quite a list of past infractions. Jerry finished the story by telling us that her information was not the first problem that this man had since coming to town. He had registered with the probation department upon arrival but these two infractions got him arrested and will probably get his parole revoked.

“It pays to be aware of what is happening around you”, said Jerry and when you think there might be problem contact authorities. Often times people tend to not get involved and the consequences can be devastating. Jerry gave a hand out on Crime Prevention for Business and Tips for Employers and Employees that gave very good information. He followed up with past stories of where being aware can make a difference.

GUESTS

Sara Holbert of Cares, Inc. and Sheri Galliart of Graber Elementary

TUIT REPORT

Don Grossardt had a long list of No-shows before finding someone present who did not ask

about the Tuit including: Debbie Cowl, Bill Long, Pat Fallon and Eric Steinle. The following

AMBUCS didnt ask, but in all fairness were present only by proxy: Scott Saylor, Steve Conard,

Preston Clark and Larry Sloan (and since fairness has nothing to do with it, they were relieved of

their cash.) Donnie G. then presented the round rascal to a fellow ledger dweller,

Ron Soellner.

PROGRAM:

Sara Holbert was our invited guest speaker from Cares, Inc. Considering that she drove from Concordia to be present at our 7:00 A.M. meeting and she was on time, we thank her greatly and wish that her promptness could be grafted onto the membership. Cares, Inc. trains and places professional therapy dogs. Since 1994, approximately 500 dogs have been prepared for service in all 50 states and several foreign nations. The dogs have a calming effect on special needs children and are trained to complete multiple functions. One of the unique abilities of the dogs is to detect diabetic alerts. Every person has an individual odor much like a fingerprint. When the dog detects a variance in that odor, it notifies the handler of the need for action.

Sheri Galliart, special education teacher at Graber Elementary, has received one of the dogs from the Cares, Inc. program with the assistance of the Hutchinson chapter of AMBUCS. Ms. Galliart appeared with her therapy dog, Trixie, a golden retriever. The dog is used in class to coax the children to complete activities they would not be otherwise inclined to do. Many times, the dog is able to motivate the disabled children to a greater degree than other persons around them. An example of the dogs usefulness involved an autistic child who spoke to the dog and counted to three when previously there had been no recognizable words. Ms. Galliart thanked AMBUCS for its assistance in the purchase of Trixie and for the horizontal handlebars to modify an AMTRYKE already in use at the school.

If you really want to help the Membership committee, bring a guest to breakfast. The Tuits are readily available for that second time guest to receive an AMBUC coffee mug.

COMMITTEE VOLUNTEERS: We are in desperate need of help for the Membership and Program committees. If you have an interest in serving on either of these committees, please volunteer by contacting President Vicki Fultz.
