Jeff B. said we need to talk to other businesses and companies about the possibility of having members in our club. Jeff R. said to put an entry on our calendars for Wednesday to remind us to bring a guest for Friday. Suggestions included the possibility of forming a noon club. Alternate weeks for meetings may put us out of the loop in a hurry.
The club voted to continue with our current meeting schedule: each Friday at 7:00 A.M. at the Hutchinson Town Club.

GUESTS:  Rick Kraus, Assistant Superintendent of HR for U.S.D. 308.  Honorary member Colby Davis.

FINES:  Troy Thode and Brad Thompson (I got it right this week) levied this mornings fines.  Jeff Roberson for driving a new car.  (Our City taxes hard at work).  All Past Presidents were fined $1 and all those who have not been President were fined $1.  (I believe that was everyone in attendance…Brad always could shakedown our club)  I believe this was a not-so-subtle hint to sign up as officers, board members and committee chairs for the coming club year.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:  Ward Davis asked that we keep Colby in our prayers as Colby will be having back surgery following the end of school to fuse some vertebrates to help ease his pain and help his mobility.

PROGRAM:  Kathy Hanks introduced Rick Kraus, Assistant Superintendent of HR for U.S.D. 308.  Rick is a 1985 graduate of Pretty Prairie High School, attended HCC for 2 years, graduate degree at ESU, and was a math teacher at HHS before coming to the USD 308 staff.  USD 308 has changed their focus and is building relationships with students to make a difference in their lives.  New studies have shown that ACEs “Adverse Childhood Experiences” stressful or traumatic experiences, including abuse, neglect and a range of household dysfunction such as witnessing domestic violence or growing up with substance abuse, mental illness, parental discord, or crime in the home can devastate a child’s future development.  Rick further explained that 308 is shifting from what has the child done to what’s been done to the child.  Childhood trauma cannot be punished out of a child.  They are also working on developing ways to help school kids outside their school day.  Teachers can make a real difference in a student’s life by using validation, expectations, rules and consequences to bring about change.
