Guests: Brian Clennan City Engineer & todays program Guest of Dean Brigman.

Sergeants Corner:

Welcome back to Sgt Davis and his deputy Jeff B. If you have been keeping up with the local news, Dean Young Radical Brigman has been promoting a major rod and custom car show in Downtown Hutchinson for the first weekend of October 2008. Guess you call his fine a mid-life crisis penalty, but think Dean is a little old for that. Darren W was fined for something, and then continued to mumble under his breath until he had paid $5. Its expensive to hack off the Sgts. Real Sheriff Randy H paid a $1 to recognize the AMBUCS for opening up the Ice Cream Booth and storing some of the overflow perishable foodstuffs for the Red Cross Emergency Shelter Operation during the recent ice storm and power outage. Tom H paid to announce a vocation change effective in Jan 2008. Tom will be leaving Alltel and establishing a small business consulting service with a partner. There go the cheap cell phone fines. Best wishes Tom on his new endeavor.

Tony Powers finally returned after carrying the TUIT for 4 weeks. After imparting his excitement about living with the Big Washer for one twelfth of a year, he fined every member in attendance for sticking him with the thing. Some of us were not sure how that was OUR fault, but after all, its for the Kids.

Announcements:

The Payton Mitchell fund is now approaching $800 after its second week. Our goal is to raise $1,000 to present a William White Scholarship in Paytons memory. This is strictly a volunteer project with no club funds committed at this time. If each member would contribute $20, the goal can be reached. Please give your contribution to Don Grossardt or Doug Foss. If you wish to send a check, make it payable to Hutchinson AMBUCS and mark it for the Payton Mitchell Memorial Fund.

January 26, 2008 is the date for the Big Hat Casino fund-raiser to replenish their funds used to upgrade our website. Please sign up at the meeting or contact Jay P.

Program:

Dean Brigman introduced Brian Clennan, who was recently named as the head of the City Engineering department. Brian is a Licensed Professional Engineer with a masters degree from Kansas State. He comes to Hutchinson from a private civil engineering firm in the Kansas City area with a great deal of experience in traffic management. When asked what was the biggest difference between working in the government sector vs. the private sector, he responds that it is the number of projects requiring his involvement. In the private sector he generally oversaw one or two projects at a time. Currently the city has 20 significant projects in process. His staff consists of 1 secretary, 3 engineers, 4 construction observers, 2 design techs, 2 traffic signal techs, and 1 surveyor. The functions of his department fall into 3 major categories Construction Observation, Design and Project Management, and basic Engineering Services. The largest project currently in process is the Reverse Osmosis Treatment Facility at 23rd and Severance and related activities.

AMTRYKE Presentation:

Bill Reasor of Wichita was present to accept an Amtryke for his daughter Megan. She could not be in attendance since she is on a respirator overnight and was too weak to handle the early morning ride from Wichita. She suffers from the results of Spinal Meningitis and became acquainted with the Amtryke through the therapy program at Wesley Hospital. He father provided a wonderful testimony to the positive effect it has had on her recovery.

50/50 drawing – $39 to Jeff Brewer, who donated it to Megan and her dad.

On December 28th the breakfast will be a Champagne breakfast with the spouses invited to join us. See you there
