Newsletter 12/14/2007

No Guests this week. We’re falling down on the job. The membership contest runs through the month of December, so bring guests, sign new members, and get in on the winnings.

Sergeant’s Corner:

With Sgt Davis not in attendance and Tony (the TUIT carrier) Powers still missing, this could have been a real quiet breakfast. However, leave it to Brad Thompson and Fred (Santa) Conner to liven things up in their absence. When Tony is gone, someone always steps up to sell 50/50 tickets. Not this week. So, since nobody contributed voluntarily, the Sgt’s decided to fine everyone $2 for failing to pass the Ambuc leadership development test for this meeting. While they were at it, they checked for breakfast cards. If you didn’t have a signed one on you, you got to buy one for $1. There followed lots of dead-air while these fines were being collected. We need a second toilet for days like today. Jeff B. was assessed a crying tax for his excuse for not standing in for Tony. Preston C, Eric S, and Al S were fined for being late to this morning’s Board meeting. Steve H paid for having a fancy new TV at his house for several weeks and not taking time to hook it up yet. Scott P, Sunoco’s safety guru, paid for not having his house up-to-code when the electrician showed up to power him up after Monday’s ice storm. And Jay P was accessed a noise tax for being noisy if you can imagine that.

Memorial for Payton Mitchell:

It is with great sadness that the club shared the loss of Curtis and Pam Mitchell’s 5 month old baby Payton.

An apparent victim of Sudden Infant Death syndrome, he failed to wake up from a nap earlier this week. As this tragedy was discussed, Doug Foss suggested the club raise funds form its members to fund an Ambuc National Scholarship in Payton’s memory. This is strictly a volunteer effort, not a motion to use club funds. All of the fine and 50/50 money was used as seed money, and those in attendance were asked to contribute $20 each to reach the goal of $1,000 to fund this scholarship. By the time the meeting was over, the club was over half-way to that goal. If you were not in attendance and wish to contribute, please give your money to Don Grossardt, Doug Foss, or Al Strecker. Make any checks payable to the Hutchinson Ambucs and note Payton Mitchell Memorial. Please keep the entire Mitchell family in your prayers as they work through this tragedy during the holiday season.

Announcements:

The Big Hat club is hosting a Casino Night on January 26, 2008 to replace some of the funds the Big Hatters

are paying to update our website. Jay P will be sending around a sign-up sheet, so let’s step up and invest about 3-4 hours to make around $800 for the club.

Speaking of the website, it will be completed and running within the next 30 days. If you have club-related pictures, please send or bring them to Al Strecker at al@alstrecker.com. Due to some communication problems, this weekly newsletter has not been available through the website for several months. This and future newsletters will be accessible at www.hutchambucs.org by clicking on Current Newsletter.
