Guests: Steve Becker, current Kansas House of Representative for the 104th District and candidate for re-election on August 2nd – our guest speaker for today – guest of Kathy Hanks. Erin Nisly and Tiffany Massey, guests of Steve Becker, members of his campaign committee.
Sergeants’ Corner: Mr Knipp selected Fred Conner to be his toilet carrier for the day. They collected the presidential fine from President Simmons. Then Mr. Knipp played American Flag trivia in honor of the July 4th holiday. We all learned many previously unknown facts about our country’s celebration of this holiday.
Programs: Representative Becker started by giving a brief report on the shortest special session in Kansas history.They did not solve the educationalquestion, but they provided for the $38 million required to keep our schools open, leaving it up to the governor to decide how the cost reductions would be allocated. In his handout, he called for a return to a sensible, sustainable tax policy, support for public schools and teachers, preserving the independence and integrity of the Kansas courts, and protecting funding of early childhood education programs.
