PROGRAM: A second special 6:30AM meeting to discuss our Ice Cream booth/building on the Kansas State Fairgrounds was presented by Paul Hardenburger. This was a continuation of the meeting held on March 7th. It was the consensus of the club that since we only use the building for 10 days a year to not build an all new building at this time. At some future time we may again look at possible grant money to build an all new structure but not now. A vote was held and unanimously approved to suspend the rules and another vote was held and unanimously approved to spend approximately $32,000 or less, depending on donated materials, for renovation of our present structure. Improvements will include a new walk-in freezer to be located in the Southeast corner of the structure with a door directly into the building. Removal and possible sale or scrapping of the existing freezers. A new exit door constructed in the Southwest corner of the building facing south. A new double canopy with picnic tables for outside seating in a 12 foot strip on the South side of the building. This outside seating area could be extended to the full length of the building at a later date. A restructured customer traffic flow that is similar to what we have now except that all fixtures will be moved east and the customers will proceed past a relocated cashier area just before exiting the building out the new exit door. A complete new frontage with revised entry door swing, new windows, new paint and trim designed to resemble ice cream parlor photos found on the internet. A possible striped retractable awning will also be reviewed. Discussion was held on whether or not to continue making our waffle cones. Both pros and cons were discussed. We will study this further and may try selling some purchased waffle cones this year. We will continue producing the waffle sundae dishes. Members are asked to continue to offer feedback and suggestions and to supply the necessary labor for the project to be completed by September 1. Be thinking of other possible food items that we can offer with our ice cream for additional sales. Again, many thanks to Paul and Ward Davis for their time and work on this presentation.
