Hutchinson Ambucs

Newsletter editor: Tom Hymer

Guests:

Karen Vidricksen, District Governor and visiting from the Noon Network Ambuc club in Salina; Tomi Ann Foust, Big Brothers Big Sisters and presenting the program today; Denise Hallman, Community Finance, guest of Vern Powers.

The Sergeants Playground:

Sergeant John Knipp and his toilet toting side-kick Randy Hendrickson fined late arrivals Tom Stanton, Jim Kicklighter, Luke McConnaughy, Mark Clark, and as usual, Eric Steinle. Sixteen members signed up for hanging lights and garland in our Downtown, however only eight showed up to work. Hhhmmmm, not good. Incredibly no one was willing to rat-out the delinquents so Jim Seitnator sacrificed himself and paid their fines while giving praise and thanks to those who showed up.

Adventures of The Round Tuit:

Mark Clark learned the beauty of toting the Tuit because Larry Sloan, Bill Long, John Knipp cared enough to ask about it. Everyone else in the club was fined for not caring. He gave the Tuit to Bob Bush so that Bob might have the same experience and also learn the beauty of toting the Tuit. Why Bob? Well, Bob Bush has stated many times over the last 10 years that he doesnt care about the Tuit. Will having the Tuit for 2 weeks change his mind? Watch out!

No meeting on Friday November 28th because it is the day after Thanksgiving. Be thankful and enjoy the Holiday.

District Governor Karen Vidricksen recognized our club with two awards, one for our web-site and the other for our community service. Good job to go everyone involved with those committees in our club.

Casino nights, Pitzer said volunteers are needed for Dec 6th for The Hutchinson News and Dec 12th for Cutters Furniture. These events are fun and fund raisers.

Amtryke presentation our work to create mobility and independence for people with disabilities:

Doug Foss and Brad Thompson assisted in the giving of an Amtryke to 5 year old Sean Castor who was accompanied by by his mother Barb, sister Ashley, and Luke M McConnaughy. With lots of energy and enthusiasm Sean climbed up on his new Amtryke and took off riding. This should prove to all of us that our efforts really do help some people and inspire us to continually do our work in the community.

Program:

Tom Hymer introduced Tomi Ann Foust, Marketing & and Public Relations Coordinator Big Brothers Big Sisters of Reno County. She talked about the changes that happen to the kids and the volunteers who are matched. Statistics show the results of the organization in the lives of kids. 46% less likely to start using illegal drugs, 27% less likely to start drinking alcohol, and 55% less likely to skip school. Currently there are over 187 children matched to volunteers. Unfortunately, there are another 150 children waiting for a Big Brother, Big Sister, Big Couple or Big Family. 75% of those on the waiting list are boys. Volunteers a.k.a. Bigs, commit to 2 hours per week in spending time with a boy or girl a.k.a. Littles. Big Brothers Big Sisters has a team of case managers to help each match and conduct regular activities.
