TUIT
Nothing to report as Monte McConnaughy still has it, but was not in attendance. Monte better have lots and lots of fines for as long as he has had the TUIT!
Publisher’s Note: Actually, Monte and family have had a number of medical issues lately. Those have kept him away. Let’s keep them in our minds and in our prayers.
FINES
Kicklighter fined Jack Mace, Mark Treaster, Randall Haltom, John Knipp and Luke McConnaughy for all being late to the meeting. Preston Clark paid a fine after Kicklighter kissed up to him after looking at a remodel job and home of Preston’s in Hyde Park. Eric Steinle, Randall Haltom and Stan Macgirvin were also fined. Purchased Fines: Doug Foss announced that a child in Wichita that needs an AMTRYKE can’t come to a breakfast in Hutchinson. Mark Treaster invited all of us to a reception on Monday, 04/16/07, from 4:30 to 6:30pm for Lt. Governor, Mark Clarkson; oops..that has already passed. Eric Steinle discussed something about global warming. Kicklighter completed an AMBUCS pin check and fined everyone not wearing one. Steinle was fined later for introducing our guest speaker as an Air Force man instead of the Navy.
PROGRAM
Chris Orwoll, the new leader at the Cosmosphere shared his background with us and also what direction the Cosmosphere is headed. Chris grew up in Southern California and went to the Naval Academy, graduating in 1986. Mr. Orwoll explained is Naval career which included work on submarines and living in many different location around the world. Chris was planning a trip to the Cosmosphere with his family and was checking online when he came across the job opportunity that was posted on the website. He pursued the opportunity and he is now here in Hutchinson.
Chris noted that there have not been a lot of changes to the Cosmosphere over the last few years and he want to change that. He would like to update the history in the museum as it currently stops at 1973. Changes include new displays in the lobby area changing the look and feel. Chris and his team are doing a lot of brain storming and strategy review at this time. They would like to expand the space works portion of the Cosmosphere and market the cosmosphere as the premiere place for restoration of spacecraft, creating models and re-production. There will be camps from folks in foreign countries such as South Africa. The Cosmosphere has purchased the land where Hutchinson Floral was located. The building will be torn down and they would like to create an education building and then use the current space at the museum from more exhibits.
