PROGRAM:

Chris Owens of Prairie Independent Living Resource Center appeared in support of Disability Mentoring Day. This event is designed to bring awareness of the need for employment for persons with disabilities. The unemployment rate for the disabled is 70%.

Mentors, persons of assorted occupations, are matched with mentees, persons with disabilities, to experience the daily activities of those particular positions. Fifty-five individuals will participate in this year’s event. AMBUCS may assist with Disability Mentoring Day by volunteering as mentors, by donating food for the breakfast and reception or by providing transportation for the mentees. Disability Mentoring Day is October 19th.

Club Announcements

Welcome Back! Jay Pitzer returns after a stay in Wichita. We will pray for a continued recovery. Jay thanked the membership for the support that he received while in the hospital.

AMBUCS TECH Golf team: They came home empty-handed, but helped to raise funds for TECH in the process. Fourteen birdies and four pars did not place them in the top 10. Chicago format includes the factoring of golf handicaps. What our team needed was higher handicaps (No names, please!).

Regional Convention Report, Fresh back from Lawton, President JoAnn Williams announced that our club won District 5-D awards for Chapter Website, Newsletter and Community Service. Also, Kent Clingenpeel was elected Regional Director (a new volunteer for the Ice Cream Booth).

Community Service: Prior to the meeting at the Highlands on October 7th, the Community Service Committee will meet at 6:15 P.M. that same morning at Disability Supports at 4000 N. Monroe. Please be prompt so that the committee may attend the breakfast afterwards.

NEXT MEETING. HIGHLANDS COUNTRY CLUB, 922 CRAZY HORSE DRIVE, OCTOBER 7, 2005:

North on Monroe past 82nd Avenue, then turn left on Crazy Horse Drive before the pavement ends

The AMBUCS GOLF SCRAMBLE is not just for golfers. We will have a full breakfast and guest speaker, Bones Ney, before the golf begins at 8:30 A.M. Everyone should attend and bring a guest for the beginning of BRANDING TIME (our membership drive during October and November of each year).
