PROGRAM:

Lori Hopp introduced Loren Frees with Hutchinson’s Trees for Tomorrow Fund, a project of the Hutchinson Tree Board. This is a non-profit organization so contributions are tax-deductible. The Hutch Tree Board has several public projects. The current project is the planting of trees at Hwy. 61 & 11th Ave. The next two projects planned are: a) from 4th to 11th Ave. on the Airport Road, b) from 4th to “G” Ave. on Hwy 61. Most of the trees in Hutchinson were planted in the 1920s and 30s. Many of these are not the best selection for our climate. The Fund is promoting the planting of trees that are better suited to Hutchinson’s climate. Trees for Tomorrow will pay home owners 50% of the cost, up to $50, for replanting new trees. These requests must be approved by Bob Hunter with City Parks. All of the recommended trees are planted at the Dillon Nature Center. Jim Smith and their staff will assist and reviewing these suggested trees to help decide what is best suited for your home.

The Hutch Tree Board: Recommends planting trees from the South Central KS tree list; encourages homeowner planting new trees; provides workshops; will give each 4th grade student in Hutch a tree to be planted this year (probably a maple); supports the Ave. A School tree planting program; promotes the Trees for Tomorrow Fund; has organized a Hutchinson tree inventory (currently about 1/3 completed). Loren had an extensive slide presentation showing the trees best suited for Hutchinson.

FINES

Larry Sloan bought a fine to announce the 10:00 am Open House for his new L&B Storage location in South Hutch. Greg West, Eric Steinle, Jeff Frizell and John Knipp got to pay an entrance fee for coming late. United Way Board members Jeff Frizell and Pat Fallon were fined, as were Dan Power and Greg West – as YMCA Board members for broken vending machines – and no Budweiser being sold at the “Y”! Stan Macgirvin got a fine for those Crupper’s Corner TV ads. Jack Mace contributed for spilling coffee in front of the line, and Lori Hopp who “knocked a flower pot all over the place.” David Ross was fined for not sitting with his guest – he should have been fined for his guest coming late as well!! Don Grossardt & Kevin McCarthy got a membership renewal fines (welcome back Don and Kevin). Jeff Frizell was fined for the dating envy the rest of us have for him. Jo Ann Williams, next year’s Pres., paid for not having her newsletter last week – with some comment about learning to be a Role Model. Jeff Frizell decided he had been fined enough and recommended that those that did not show up at last Saturday’s Tee Shirt work party need to pay – which they did. Preston Clark paid a fine for his “We Buy Houses,” announcement and flyers he handed out. Jack Mace asked for volunteer help working on the home in Nickerson – a charitable project he has been working hard on. Don Grosshardt let us know that his grandson placed 11th out of 57 in the Region Spelling Bee. Jeff Frizell is proud to be an AMBUC, the best group of people to work with!!! Last, but not least, Eric Steinle solicited for more help with the NJCAA Tournament Tee Shirt project. He particularly needs help on the Set Up day.
