Newsletter 11/16/2012

MEETING: Friday, November 16, 2012 EDITOR: Tom Hymer

WELCOME GUESTS: Preston Clark introduced Dale Tritsch who has retired from the Hutchinson Post Office. Jeff Brewer brought his wife Pat to the club this morning.

SERGEANTS: Scott Potucek and Guy Gann fined President Darren for keeping the wrong time, however there was a question about what is the right time. Duke is supposed to deliver the fine money and other revenue to the accounting office, but decided to keep it for a couple of weeks in hopes that it would multiply. Dan, Ward, and again Darren were fined for being smart alecks, something that is very unusual. Then the crowd was treated to another session of Thanksgiving Turkey Trivia. But somehow the NFL got into the game, so to speak, with football trivia from 1934. But back to turkeys who have 3500 feathers each, 46 million are sold, they cluck and gobble, and wild ones can fly at 35 miles per hour. A whole bunch of people had to pay for not knowing these things and everyone was satisfied when the bell rang.

1. ANNOUNCEMENT: President Darren announced that there will be no meeting on Friday November 23RD due the Thanksgiving Day Holiday.

2. ANNOUNCEMENT: President Darren announced that our Christmas party will take place on Saturday December 1ST 6:30PM at the Towne Club. On the menu is prime rib, chicken marsala, and salmon. Included is a buffet and dessert. $25 per person. Sign-up sheet is going around, or send an email to Randy Hendrickson: greenhillmarketing@sbcglobal.net or call at 620-257-8494. CHECK YOUR CALENDAR AND DO IT NOW.

3. ANNOUNCEMENT: Fred Conner said that Christmas boxes for Head Start kids will be assembled on Friday December 7TH at Trinity United Methodist Church in Thorne Hall. All members of the club are invited to help with this outreach program but will be doing so independently of Ambucs. We will meet and have breakfast at the Towne Club as usual, the sergeants will be on duty and announcements will be made which will conclude the meeting. All those wanting to help will be able to go to Trinity to get started on the project.

CLUB BUSINESS: Jay Pitzer reminded everyone about the Casino night that we are hosting for CHS foods on December 7TH at the Ramada Convention Center. More dealers are needed so send Jay an email to sign up, jay.pitzer@edwardjones.com or call him at (620) 728-1141. CHECK YOUR CALENDAR AND DO IT NOW.

TODAYS PROGRAM, Dan Power introduced our own Chuck Peterson who presented todays program about diving in the Fiji Islands. Dan himself is an accomplished diver, and recognized Chuck for the distinction of Master Diver. Getting to the Fiji Islands requires 12 hours of flying and crossing the International Date Line at 18 degrees S. latitude causing Chuck to fully feel the effects of jet lag. With quality and precision cameras Chuck captured beautiful and colorful videos and photos of his diving events.

The pristine clarity of the ocean was outstanding. He identified sharks and other species of fish swimming all about and describing how they are all an integral part of nature. Thanks to Chuck for a fascinating and informative presentation.

50/50 DRAWING: Randy Hendrickson won the 50/50 pot of $20. NEWSLETTER DRAWING: Getting the daily double Randys name was drawn and he gave the right answer to win $25. The Newsletter question for November 30TH is On what latitude are the Fiji Islands located. $5 for the right answer.

MEETING: Friday, November 9, 2012 EDITOR: Tom Hymer

WELCOME GUESTS: No guests today.

SERGEANTS: Scott Potucek and Guy Gann went hunting in the Ambuc Forest and found some hapless members to charge and take their money. Ward was late, $1. The Dead Butt Society decided to re-create itself but Macklin, Brewer, and others were fined for the inspiration. There is a new concept called Bicycle Butts of the City Council, try not to think about it. C. Mitchell paid for growing his beard and R. Mitchell paid for going somewhere but he couldnt remember. We hope this is not representative of the other members of the club. The big money maker was Scott Potuceks Thanksgiving Trivia game.

1. PAID ANNOUNCEMENT: Harley Macklin paid to announce that he and his wife went to Hawaii to celebrate 39 years of marriage, many congratulations.

2. ANNOUNCEMENT: Guy Gann and Randy Hendrickson announced that our Christmas party will take place on Saturday December 1ST 6:30PM at the Towne Club. On the menu is prime rib, chicken marsala, and salmon. Included is a buffet and dessert. $25 per person. Sign-up sheet is going around.

CLUB BUSINESS: Doug Foss reported that Brad Thompson delivered two Amtrykes, one went to Linden and the other went to Osage City. Both recipients were very grateful, and one expected to pay for the Amtryke. Thanks to Doug and Brad and all the members on the Community Service Committee for their good work.

HAVE YOU NOTICED, some members who regularly attend have been absent lately. How about giving them a call to urge them to resume attending the weekly meetings.

TODAYS PROGRAM, Dan Power presented his hunting expedition to the Arctic Tundra. Just to get there takes 2 days and 4 flights. The weather is quite chilly there, ranging for -25 to -50 degrees which requires 1inch parkas and other cold weather gear. Attention must be given to prevent frost bite as it can occur in seconds if one is careless. Some discussion was made about this subject, and its probably one of those things where what is said in the club, stays in the club. The hunt included muskoxen (a type of buffulo), caribou, and white wolves. Inuit Eskimo Indians populate the area many of which are on government assistance provided by Canada. Dans son Dane assisted by creating a Power Point presentation using the photos taken while Dan was on this expedition. Very interesting program and informative as well.

50/50 DRAWING: Reta Joy won the 50/50 pot of $16.

NEWSLETTER DRAWING: Ward Davis name was drawn, but he didnt know the question nor the answer. The Newsletter question for next Friday is, What is the name of the Eskimo Indians that live in the Arctic Tundra? $25 for the right answer.

MEETING: Friday, November 2, 2012 EDITOR: Tom Hymer

WELCOME GUESTS: Kerrie Brewer, Town Club Manager.

SERGEANTS: Scott Potucek and Doug Foss took control of the meeting, well, they had partial control. But they managed to raise some money by dinging Dan Power for tardiness, collecting a dollar from members who did not participate in the Holy Cross Casino night and if you did participate you paid a no-pin fine. Then there was some discussion about bribery and corruption at the Chili Cook-off last weekend. Jim Seitnator was identified as a suspect, but someone fingered Dan Power for bribing the judges with $5. In the end all was well as President Darren noted that Chili Cook-off leader Eric Steinle organized a great event. Other Ambucs were assessed fines, John Knipp for his K-State loyalty, Mark Treaster for no Ambus pin in his campaign photos, and others who flunked the This day in History of the Presidents.

1. PAID ANNOUNCEMENT: Jim Kicklighter paid to recognize the success of kids who exceeded expectations.

2. PAID ANNOUNCEMENT: Mark Treaster paid to urged everyone to vote on election day next week, without regard to your political beliefs, just exercise your right to vote.

PRESIDENT DARREN WICKS addressed members with a feasible plan to continue T-shirt production for NJCAA Tournament. This plan is the result of several meetings of members who serve on the T-Shirt committee and concluded that our past business model of this project must change to make it productive and worth the time and effort the members put into it. Based on making some changes Don Grossardt prepared an projection analysis. 1. Team Logos will no longer be provided due to the NJCAA new single elimination format. Shirts provided will feature a Tournament Logo on the Front and an Event Logo on the back. 2. Inventory will consist of T-shirts. Kid sizes, polos, sweats, and denims will be available until the existing inventory is depleted. A decision was reached to increase the retail price of T-shirts by $2.00. These changes are expected to generate an estimated net of $3,800. By making a new plan to participate in the NJCAA the Ambucs will maintain its presence and visibility at the tournament. The next step is to present this plan to American Legion for their consideration. Darren concluded his report with an appeal for members to get a count of our existing inventory. By a show of hands most members agreed that a Saturday morning is the best time to schedule the inventory. All members will be notified when the actual Saturday is determined.

BOARD MEETING FRIDAY NOVEMBER 12TH AT 6:15AM.

HAVE YOU NOTICED, some members who regularly attend have been absent lately. How about giving them a call to urge them to resume attending the weekly meetings.

TODAYS PROGRAM, Dan Power, Board Member of the Town Club, introduced Kerrie Brewer, Town Club Manager. She talked about how she began her career in the restaurant business as a child interested in food preparation. At age 19 her first job was in old folks home where she learned some basics. In May of this year she was appointed manager of the Town Club after Hassan El Khatib retired. Since then membership has increased. Both Dan and Kerrie answered questions and discussed the need to bring a younger set of members to the Town Club and information on a current membership drive that includes a Membership Mingle on November 29th.

50/50 DRAWING: Scott Potucek won the 50/50 pot of $19 and donated the money to Head Start. NEWSLETTER DRAWING: Stan Macgirvins name was drawn, but he didnt know the question nor the answer. The Newsletter question for next Friday is at what age did Ms. Brewer get her first job? $20 for the right answer.

HUTCHINSON CHAPTER OF AMBUCS

GUESTS: Ryan Diehl & Leslie Shea representing Kids Vote for Reno County

THE SERGEANTS SLAUGHTER: Sergeant (Bob) Bush and his Sidekick (Jim) Seitnater were a little short with their list, but long on their collections. The onslaught started by picking on Don Grossardt for showing up for the 6:15 meeting that had been cancelled. Then they nabbed Stan Macgirvin for sitting with Don, who probably also showed up for the cancelled meeting. (guess you boys should have read the newsletter or the special email that went out cancelling the meeting) Brad Thompson paid the tax on his 50/50 pot winnings. Sergeant Bob pronounced today as Chili Fest Friday, so all the AMBUCS celebrated by donating their dollars for not having any idea as to the names of or where the hottest peppers in the world could be found. Any AMBUC attending the Chili Fest tomorrow (Oct. 27th) should have been well prepared for any hot and spicy chili. Jim Seitnater bought a fine to announce that he is a Grandpa once again. Ward Davis bought a fine to announce the Reins of Hope Fall Benefit Auction is next Saturday night (Nov. 3rd) in the Sunflower North Building on the Kansas State Fairgrounds. Sergeant Bush rang out to a sigh of relief that his reign of terror is over as a new sergeant takes over next week. Nice last week of work for the duo as they raised $68 for the kids.

THE PRESIDENTS REIGN: President Wicks reported that the next T-Shirt committee meeting will be next Friday, November 2nd at 6:15 a.m. The next AMBUCS Board Meeting will be on Friday, November 9th. Doug Foss announced that at this time, he does not have anything for a Community Service Meeting, but if anything comes up, he will contact those member for an impromptu meeting.

CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS: Check your calendars and get signed up to help with the next Casino Night. We are on the calendar to do a Casino Night for CHS Foods on Friday Night December 7th.

The Membership Committee has changed the date for the Membership Drive Steak Fry, which is now on for Saturday February 16th. Mark it on your calendar and begin talking to your friends/acquaintances/clients/etc Talk to them about AMBUCS, show them the passion you have for this club, and get them excited to want to attend the Steak Fry so we can show them what the club is all about, and potentially grow the membership of the club at the same time.

PROGRAM: Ryan Diehl & Leslie Shea came to the club to spread the news about Kids Voting Reno County. This program was modeled off of Kids Voting USA and Kids Voting Kansas. This program is being presented within the Hutchinson, Buhler and Nickerson School Districts, as well as Holy Cross School, to acquaint children with the voting process at a young age and encourage discussion between parents and children about the candidates and election issues. They are encouraging all voters to vote and to take your school age children to the polls with you so that they can vote as well. The program ultimately wants to get the youth acquainted with the democratic process and interested in it enough for them to register to vote when they become of age, so that they can exercise their right to vote and have the feeling that they are truly apart of the democratic process. Dont forget to exercise your right and go to the polls and vote on Tuesday, November 6th, and if you do happen to have school age children, take them with you and encourage them to vote in the Kids Voting Reno County election.

HUTCHINSON CHAPTER OF AMBUCS

GUESTS: Kim Smith, Hutchinson Care Center

THE SERGEANTS SLAUGHTER: Sergeant (Bob) Bush and Deputy Dane (Power) began their collections with the chatty table of Dean Brigman, Jim Jacobs, Rick Mitchell and Terry Brigman. Dean was also hit with a suck up tax. Paul Brown paid a stupid tax for donating his 50/50 pot winnings last week. Darren Wicks was appointed a special assistant to the Sergeant and was sent around to collect one dollar for all members present that did not attend the 6:15 a.m. T-Shirt Committee meeting. Sergeant Bush broke out his deck of cards to allow tables of members to put a dollar into the toilet whether the card he drew for them was higher or lower than the sergeants card. That card game did not last long, so the Sergeant moved on to mandatory announcements. This editor was volunteered to pay a dollar to announce the congratulations to the Hutchinson High School Girls doubles tennis teams qualifying for the State Tournament. Qualifiers were Ashton Fee (Jr.), Melissa Fee (Jr.), Allison Reiser (Sr.) and Hannah Weber (Sr.). Congratulations to the team of Reiser/Weber for their 6th Place Finish! John Knipp mandatorily volunteered information about the Oktoberfest events. Ward Davis bought a fine to announce the Reins of Hope Fund Raising event scheduled for next Sat. (Oct. 27th) at the Kansas State Fairgrounds. Fred Conner bought a political announcement in support of fellow AMBUC member, Mark Treaster, running for the Kansas Senate. Doug Foss bought a fine to mention that a Television Interview with our own Reno County Sherriff, Randy Henderson, which showed his AMBUCS sign hanging in his office. Craig Johnson passed around the Steak Night sign-up sheet, which has a very small number scheduled for attendance. (Late news on the Steak Night, as it has been cancelled for Nov. 3rd, and tentatively rescheduled for February. AMBUCS are encouraged to check your emails and respond as to your schedule preferences)

THE PRESIDENTS REIGN: President Wicks reported on the progress of the T-Shirt committee. Next week Darren will have a couple of options available to the club for an in depth inventory of our T-Shirt Stock. It is very critical that we get an absolute accurate count as we move forward with our proposal to the American Legion for change to the T-Shirt concessions at the NJCAA Basketball Tournament. All members are invited to the next meeting to discuss additional thoughts and ideas, which will take place Friday November 2nd at 6:15 a.m.

CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS: No additional announcements were presented.

PROGRAM: Program Host Dan Power finally found a program that would not cancel on him, world-wide traveler extraordinaire, Dan Power. Dan brought stories and pictures of his and Shirleys trip to Machu Picchu. The Lost City of Machu Picchu can only be traveled to by train. Their trip began from the town of Cusco and followed the only flat land in the area, which is adjacent to the Urubamba River. All the surrounding area is mountainous and terraced land. The Citadel of Machu Picchu was built according to its natural surroundings. It was built out of stone with no mortar that were hand carved to fit together like puzzle pieces. It is comprised of over 140 Temples and Tombs with a Spiritual Plaza that dates back to the 1400s. An early morning brought them to see the first morning sun hit the Sun Dial in the Plaza in the Temple of the Sun. The Plaza was constructed to such a fine tolerance to where the people there can tell you the exact time and date by reading how the suns position hits the Sun Dial and their calendar that is carved in the stone. Guinea Pigs are raised by all the people there in preparation for meals for holidays or special occasions. Dan said that when guinea pigs are deep fat fried, they taste a lot like chicken. Anyone for guinea pig on a stick?

MEETING: Friday, October 12, 2012 EDITOR: Tom Hymer

WELCOME GUESTS: There were no guests today. Thats very unusual. Perhaps we all can try to invite a guest to visit our club, the most outstanding civic organization in the entire Reno County.

SERGEANTS: Jeff Brewer and his dad Larry Sloan, substitutes for Bob Bush who left a list of charges against members who were innocently attending Oktober Fest, enjoyed taking their money for just being themselves. Other offenders included Brad for an inconvenience tax, Eric for making an early exit, Mark for playing politics, and the rest of the membership who did not participate in the Rod Run, what? However Jim Seitnater was noted for his peace keeping skills, and for Paul twisting his tail, what? Being that Oktober Fest was on everyones mind the sergeants served up some Oktober Fest trivia questions primarily dealing with beer, go figure.

1. PAID ANNOUNCEMENT: Tom Hymer paid a dollar to announce a Big Brothers Big Sisters Luncheon on Tuesday November 27TH. The event will feature the work of BBBS and the difference it makes for the kids by having a mentor. John Montgomery of the Hutchinson News will be the key note speaker. The challenge is the members making the commitment to host the Casino nights on Friday and Saturday nights.

HUTCHINSON CHAPTER OF AMBUCS

GUESTS: Irene Hart, City of Hutchinson Housing Program Manager

THE SERGEANTS SLAUGHTER: There is a new Sherriff (Bob Bush) and Deputy (Randy Hendrickson) in the town club this month and they have proclaimed their time as Octoberfest, which an AMBUCS translation means get out your cash and put it in the toilet. They began their collecting with the newsletter editor for publishing some vague information a couple weeks back. After I threw another AMBUC under the bus, they fined the rest of my table for sitting with me. My apologies to Brad Thompson, Stan Macgirvin, Mark Treaster and Curtis Mitchell, but by the way they were going, they were going to get your cash anyway. Dennis Bockenstedt was fined for not meeting our guest speaker at the door. Darren Wicks for ratting out Dan Power as last weeks program host. Dan Power for last weeks program cancelling, and Dane Power guilty by association. All AMBUCS paid a fine for the National Day of Mourning, the Americans losing the Ryder Cup to the Europeans. Craig Johnson probably paid twice, from Ann Bush for not repairing Jacks Saxophone fast enough and from Bob for repairing it too fast. Curtis Mitchell was hit for no AMBUC Pin and not mentioning AMBUCS in his recent newspaper article. Larry Sloan and Brenda Janda were nailed for not getting any press in the newspaper. Dennis B., Dean Brigman & Jim Seitnater were fined for all the Streets that are torn up for Construction within the city of Hutchinson. Sherriff Bush finished his Patrol with a mandatory $1.00 vote into a pot to vote on whom everyone thought would win this Saturdays Football Game between the Kansas State Wildcats and the Kansas Jayhawks. Bob reported that $72 was raised in the vote and KSU was the winner in the voting.

THE PRESIDENTS REIGN: President Wicks reported on the progress of the T-Shirt committee. We cannot continue to produce the team customized shirts due to the costs associated with that type of setup. The committee is continuing to look at the best options for going back to the American Legion with what we determine would be a profitable venture for both them and the AMBUCS. All members are invited to the next meeting to discuss additional thoughts and ideas, which will take place Friday October 19th at 6:15 a.m. Next Friday October 12th at 6:15 a.m. will be the AMBUCS Board Meeting.

Doug Foss reported that a mother of a recent AMTRYKE recipient donated $100 to the AMBUCS while visiting the Ice Cream Booth during the Kansas State Fair, thanking us again for doing what we do for the children we help.

PROGRAM: Irene Hart, Housing Program Manager for the City of Hutchinson, has been in this position with the city for about 6 months. Irene applauds the Hutchinson City Council for addressing the housing issue in the city. The City of Hutchinson conducted a housing condition survey in a timeframe spanning from 2001 to 2009. That survey told officials that the average year of housing built within the city was 1954, which in comparison to other similar communities that have a average year of 1966, tells them that they are dealing with many older structures than other communities. Over that time span of the survey, of the 17,000 properties reviewed, nearly one-third (approx. 5000) of the properties declined in quality and were measurably deteriorated. Focus areas were established generally south of 11th Avenue in the Allen & Avenue A school district boundaries for grant applications to try to assist broader but concentrated areas for improvements. From this survey the Housing Authority developed a strategic plan which developed a property maintenance code, established a Housing Department within the City of Hutchinson and established a Community Housing Trust Fund. With Global, Federal, State and Local economies effecting housing, the Housing department is continuing to look at ways to add housing for a work force that is not currently living within the community as well as maintain the deteriorating housing with the brush up Hutch and neighborhood revitalization programs.

HUTCHINSON CHAPTER OF AMBUCS

GUESTS: Randy Dreiling, Hutchinson High School Head Football Coach (Program) & Luke Steinle, son of Eric Steinle.

THE SERGEANTS SLAUGHTER: Sergeant Slaughter, Brad Thompson, and Toilet Toter, Jeff Brewer levied late fines to Jim Seitnater, Randall Haltom & Ward Davis. Randy Henderson was hit with a membership renewal tax. Sergeant Brad observed that during his reign he had not fined Dave Suhler, so he was hit with a quiet tax, a no AMBUC pin fine and also hit Doyle Ehling and Pat Fallon for a guilty by association tax for sitting with the quiet one. Paul Brown paid for eating or not eating ice cream? Darren Wicks was hit with the Presidential tax. Dan Power was fined for his program arriving before he did. Darren was hit again for a smart remark tax. Guy Gann paid for not wearing his badge and not wearing his AMBUC pin. Brad was short on material so he pulled out some of his totally useless trivia on several tables to raise some money for the kids. Fred Conner bought a fine to announce the collection bucket being passed around to try to save the Head Start kids Christmas. Doug Foss bought a fine announcing he and Grandma Jill will be in Orlando, Florida next week celebrating a grandsons 1st Birthday.

THE PRESIDENTS REIGN: President Wicks thanked all AMBUCS for their hard work at the Ice Cream Booth at the Kansas State Fair. An announcement will be made at a later date as to how profitable our fund raiser was. The first meeting of the T-Shirt Committee will be Friday September 28th at 6:15 a.m. The first Ice Cream Building Committee meeting date is still to be announced.

CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS: Casino Night this Saturday September 29th at the Town Club for Cause for Paws.

PROGRAM: Dan Power introduced Randy Dreiling, Hutchinson High School Head Football Coach, as being crazy for wanting to take over a football program that did not win a game in three years, but coach Dreiling described himself as not crazy but desperate. Randy began by thanking the club for what we do for the community. He understands what we do and how much it means to those we help as his first child was born premature and had some special needs during its early childhood development. Coach Dreiling believes the running of his football program probably has some parallels to running a business. He opened it up for questions to be able to talk about the topics we wanted to hear about. First line of questioning began with what happened last Friday night against Rockhurst and how do you get your kids to move past it to get them ready for the next week. He said that first off he blames someone else, then he looks at how did I cause the problem. He said that Rockhurst scoring the last 21 points of the game to win was the perfect storm. Approximately 10 things happened that allowed them to get on that roll and continue on that roll to complete their comeback. In hindsight, there were a few instances that he should of called timeout and told them exactly what he was thinking instead of assuming they were on the same page with him. Coach Dreiling believes what he is doing with the HHS Football program, except for a few of the cuss words, is the best for the kids. He believes that kids these days have too much of a sense of entitlement, so he makes them work hard for their respective spots and will start the best players at each position regardless of who they are (his own son included) or how good their parents think they are. Coach and his staff are not only teaching these kids football, but also teaching them life lessons.

UPCOMING AMBUCS MEETING SCHEDULE & EVENTS:

HUTCHINSON CHAPTER OF AMBUCS

GUESTS: Amanda Bouy (Program) with the Boys & Girls Club. Ron Roberson, guest and brother of Jeff Roberson. Brady Yoder (Amtryke Recipient) with his parents, Taylor & Natalie Yoder, and his sisters, Hailey & Ashley Yoder.

THE SERGEANTS SLAUGHTER: Sergeant Slaughter, Brad Thompson, and Deputy Dog, Stan Macgirvin were quick to the task of collecting cash to save time for the Amtryke presentation and the program. Those fined include Darren Wicks (Presidential Fine), Curtis Mitchell (past Pres. Fine), Preston Clark (late), Rick Mitchell (?), Dean Brigman (Impersonating a Bridgman Oil Employee) & Terry Brigman (not defending Brads honor). Board Meeting fines included Doug Foss (late), Duke Wiggins (late) & Dane Power (skipped the meeting). Brad ended the slaughter with Youve been fined by the best and you can forget the rest. Don Grossardt bought a fine for his son Jason being spotted on National TV during the coverage of the KSU Football game on Sept. 8th. [(Since when do they release the name of the streaker?)(thanks to an anonymous AMBUC for this quote)]

THE PRESIDENTS REIGN: President Wicks presented highlights from the Board Meeting. Board approved contributing the same donation amount as last year to this years Disability Supports Mentoring Day. Ice Cream Booth Sales as of end of the day Thursday were down approximately $2100 from last years sales. Ice Cream Building Committee and the T-Shirt Committee will be gearing up as soon as possible to make decisions regarding the future of these important AMBUC projects. If you are not already assigned to a committee, contact Darren to join one as we need the input of all members of the club.

CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS: Signup sheets are going around for the upcoming Casino Nights (Sept. 29th) & (Oct. 13th)

AMTRYKE PRESENTATION: A toddler sized Amtryke was presented to Brady Yoder. Smiles filled the room as Brady was given a test run on his new Amtryke. The joy the Yoder family showed today is the perfect example of why we do what we do.

PROGRAM: Amanda Bouy (Boys & Girls Club) came to speak to the club as our Grant Writer for the Proposed Ice Cream Building. Amanda was really excited being able to see firsthand what we do with our funds. Amanda has a lot of experience with grant writing, securing various grants for the Boys & Girls Club for daily operations as well as improvements. As Amanda began doing research of numerous foundations, she was able to zero in on one specific foundation that she thought would be a perfect fit for our proposed project, The Sunderland Foundation. The Sunderland Foundation has invested in the places and spaces where nonprofits do their work, with some of their areas of interest including Higher Education and Youth Services and including hitting a homerun on their Geographical Focus of giving. The Sunderland Foundation also has a history of funding Brick and Mortar projects, including building construction, renovation, repairs and restoration. The Sunderland Foundation is based out of Overland Park, KS, and was established from the Sunderland family from the Ash Grove Cement Company. Amanda believes that this foundation should be the main focus as Plan A of our Grant search. She has also identified a couple other foundations that we can fall back on for a Plan B and/or Plan C, but they did not seem to be as perfect of a match. Amanda will be in communication with the Ice Cream Building Committee as well as other members of the club to gather information for a Letter of Inquiry to the foundation as well as information for the Grant Application as we move forward. If anyone is interested in more information on the foundation, you can go to www.sunderlandfoundation.org.
