THE WEEKLY FUND RAISER: Sergeants Brad and Stan collected money from Paul Hardenburger for tardiness, wanted to fine untouchable Dennis, but fined Chuck instead, assessed Dane Power with the weekly presidential tax, Tom for a Tomasina quip, Darren for greeting the ladies, and Brenda for being herself. Others were fined but the editor was distracted by getting another cup of coffee. When the bell rang everyone was happy.

TUIT REPORT: Mark Treaster took the Tuit to a KU basketball game, then went to a Disco Club restaurant, but nobody asked him about the Tuit, probably because he kept it in his pocket. Then he bequeathed the Tuit to his table mate Jay Pitzer.

PROGRAM: Jeff Roberson introduced todays program presented by Paul Hawkins director of the South Central Kansas Library System. SCKLS serves many communities in order to provide excellent library services in smaller communities with 147 schools. In addition to paper and book resources e-reading comprises 17% to 27% in the libraries. The SCKLS also promotes literacy reading programs during the summer months. Mr. Hawkins believes that physical libraries are essential for resources and education as schools with traditional libraries achieve better test scores.

SGT. REPORT: Sgt. Brad and Asst. Marvin tried to pass themselves off as mere fundraisers for the club. Dane paid his weekly presidential fine. Steve Harmon was fined under the new fine a guest rule. Steve C. paid for a way late newsletter and misidentifying Dennis Jeff Reiser. Late fines were collected from Dan P. and Paul H. Brenda paid for being here two weeks in a row. Guy paid for no badge. Members paid for missing pins including the Pres. and Past Pres. Randall paid to rid himself of the TUIT and gave it to Mark Treaster.

CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS:

MIXER AT 14 NORTH: The mixer sponsored by Duke and Brad was well attended at 14 North Main. The next mixer will be sponsored by Dan and Shirley Power. Details will be provided in future newsletters.

DISTRICT GOVERNOR REPORT: Linda Andrews reminded the membership that February is National Visibility Month. Success has been made using the Ask me about AMBUCS pin. February 22, 2014 is National Service Day. The AMBUC National Conference will be in October in St. Louis, MO.

ICE CREAM BOOTH PROGRAM, FEBRUARY 21, 2014 AT 6:30 A.M. We will begin the meeting at 6:30 discussing the Ice Cream Booth, break for the serving of breakfast at 7:00, then continue with the discussion of the booth throughout the meeting. Please be present to participate.

PROGRAM: Steve Conard and Steve Harmon presented their newest edition of then and now photos of Hutchinson. A few examples: Elliott Mortuary incorporates the original house for the business in its current structure, the Hutchinson News in 1900 was located at the current Sturgeon Glass, the Reno County Courthouse was at one time located where the Salvation Army Thrift Store is now, the Wells Fargo office is now Jillians Grill and Nation Meyers fathers house is now the location of the Hutchinson Town Club. Think how old Steve and Steve must be to know all this stuff!

FINES: Brad Thompson and Jeff Brewer levied our morning fines as our Sergeants-At-Arms. Tony Powers, Dean Brigman, Guy Gann and this editor were fined for not wearing our Big Hat. Darren Wicks, Paul Brown, Randall Haltom, Tom Hymer and Dane Power were fined for not being Big Hat members. Guy Gann was also fined for no name-badge or pin. Paul Hardenburger was fined for being late. He then asked What is a Big Hat? which prompted Jay Pitzer to be fined for not properly instructing a new member. Brenda Janda paid a membership renewal fine for missing a few meetings. Dwight Wiehl, Mark Treaster, Harley Macklin, Victor Curtis, Ward Davis and Jeff Roberson paid fines for being in the Sergeants line-of-fire.

ROUND-TUIT: Doyle Ehling paid to be rid of the iron maiden and passed it on to Randall Haltom. Jay Pitzer and Dennis Reiser paid for not asking about it.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Feb. 7, Community Service Committee Meeting 6:30 AM.

PROGRAM: Jeff Reiser introduced Ken Baker, General Manager of Radio Kansas. Ken has been with Radio Kansas since 1982. They are located inside Davis Hall at 9th & Walnut. Radio Kansas began as KHCC-FM 90.1 a 100,000 watt FM station in 1979. It is a not-for-profit Public Radio Service broadcaster and is owned by Hutchinson Community College. They serve Hutchinson, Newton, McPherson and Wichita. In 1988 KHCD-FM 89.5 was added serving Salina & Manhattan. In 1972 KHCT-FM 90.9 was added serving Great Bend & Hayes. Radio Kansas provides Classical music, New Instrumental music, News from National Public Radio, A Prairie Home Companion, Classical from Around the World, All Things Considered and Nightcrossings. In 2006 Radio Kansas was one of the first stations to adopt HD Radio. Using the HD technology they added 2 stations locally, a Jazz music station and The Breeze instrumental music. SGT. REPORT: Sgt. Brad and Asst. Marvin were once again fleecing the faithful. Dane paid his weekly fine for being President. Jay paid for being a birthday boy (59 if youre counting). Six members were supposed to pay for not paying for breakfast at the State of the City (we still cant figure out who they are). AMBUCS were fined for not working the Water casino night. Brad T. fined Jay, Doyle, Larry and Troy for not asking about the TUIT. Brad T. gave the TUIT to Doyle. Doyle responded by threatening to bury it (a great idea!). Doug was fined for repetitive whining.

CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS:

State of the City Address: President Dane thanked Harley Macklin for spearheading this event for the club. The event lead to front page coverage for the club and had the support of the Chamber of Commerce. Our chapter was well represented by the members present.

Water Casino Night: Thank you to all members participating for this casino on January 23, 2014.

AMBUC Social: January 31, 2014, 5:30 P.M.-7:00 P.M. at 14 N. Main (Old Sandtree restaurant). Bring a guest and unwind from the weekly grind!

Old Fashioned Ice Cream Booth: Darren Wicks reported that the committee continues to study all options for the booth from tearing down the structure and building everything new to modifying the existing building. Paul H. will be assisting with drawings of possible solutions.

PROGRAM: A short video was shown of the AMTRYKES Veterans Initiative. The goal is include everybody, the disabled with the able-bodied.

50/50 WINNER: Brad Thompson was the winner of $5.00. The pot added another $18.00 to the Lucky Aces drawing. See last weeks newsletter for the total (Im busy here).

GUESTS: Callie White, HCC student heading to K-State for a degree in Speech Therapy, a guest of Jay Pitzer. Reg Jones, Director of Public Works for the City of Hutchinson, our guest speaker. Colby Davis, Wards son.

FINES: Brad Thompson and Stan Macgirvin wielded the toilet as our Sergeants-At-Arms this morning. Dane Power paid the customary Presidential pardon tax. Jeff Roberson received a cell call during the board meeting, a fineable offense. Rick Mitchell, Bob Bush, Paul Hardenburger and Andrew Parr were fined a membership renewal tax since they had missed a few meetings. Randall Haltom forgot to send the checks to Don from the Christmas Party another fineable offense. Guy Gann fined for no name-badge. Dane Power fined for not knowing who is in charge of the name-badges (thanks for having my back Dane). Tom Hymer was fined a hat-on-in-meeting tax (I think it was a Big Hat cap). Randall Haltom (again) for poor vehicle backing at the fair (there should be a statue of limitations after a period of time). They followed up with an AMBUCS pin tax. Needless to say the pot runeth over.

ROUND-TUIT: After some prodding Dorinda Simmons decided to give up the TUIT to the one person that shouldnt have it Brad Thompson.

PROGRAM: Dean Brigman introduced Reg Jones, Director of Public Works. The Public Works department is the backbone of the city as they take care of the cities infrastructure and provide the services that are fundamental to the quality of life that we enjoy. The Public Works Department is comprised of 91 employees in 7 departments; Administration, Public Works Maintenance & Flood Control, Central Garage and Fleet Maintenance, Streets, Water Production and Treatment, Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Center, Water Maintenance, Sewer Maintenance, Wastewater Treatment Facility and Trash Collection & Recycling. Some of these are comprised into one department. There is not enough space here to list the duties of each department. SGT. REPORT: Sgt. Brad and Asst. Jeff were in search of unsuspecting victims for the benefit of others. Tom H. was fined for sitting with all his friends (no one). Larry S., Marvin, Donnie G. and Pat were fined for unknown whining. Dennis R. is trying to obtain immunity from fines by selling 50/50 tickets (well see how long that lasts). Past Pres. Darren was fined for poor training of the current officers. Guy was fined for no name badge. Doug was fined for whining about being picked on too much. Randall and Doyle were fined for sitting with Doug. Duke forgot and paid. Ward was fined for misrepresenting his timeliness. Mark T. paid to get rid of the TUIT (Arrgh! Its back!). Dorinda now has it. Jeff R. paid for being fake Pres. Doug bought a fine because an AMBUC left trash behind for Becky to clean up.

AMBUCS BOARD MEETING: Since President Dane was gone this week, Board Meeting is January 17, 2014 at 6:15 A.M.

PROGRAM: Tom Hymer introduced Diane Potter who is spearheading the effort to build a new Hutchinson AMBUCS website. Video testimonials of AMBUC members were recorded for website use. The new website will have new photos, content and a mockup will be available for preview. Diane did experience some difficulty with the derriere of a certain AMBUC interfering with the photos taken at the meeting (a subject to be addressed in future newsletters). If you have personal photos or materials relevant to our chapter, please make them available to be included on the website. Contact Tom Hymer for further information or assistance.

LUCKY ACES POT DRAWING: Using Doyles tickets, Randall Haltom did not draw the Ace of Spades so Doyle gets $5.00. The pot now goes to $121.00 according to Tom Hymer.

TUIT REPORT: Troy Thode was on the look-out for some Ambucs, but didnt find any. Probably because he was seated at the same table with Mark Treaster, Mark got the Tuit.

PROGRAM: Understanding the health insurance marketplace was conducted by Jackie Johnston, Jan Potter, and Jill Foss. The work of the Navigators is a key component of the Patient Protection Affordable Care Act. Having their office in Prairie Star Health Center, Navigators Foss and Potter are non-political, as their work is to assist visitors to find health care insurance options. They are funded by a Federal Grant and are 100% neutral. Prairie Star offers regular health care and dental. Over 26,000 appointments were made last year. Their presentation included the steps to create an account and decide on insurance options available by Blue Cross Blue Shield and Coventry. Guest Patrick McCreary todays program presenter. THE WEEKLY FUND RAISER: When the sergeants took over you could tell that speedy collections was their mantra. Anyone who did not bring a spouse paid one dollar. Jay Pitzer who brought his wife Donna and then paid for spouse neglect. TUIT REPORT: Fred Conner confessed that he did not have the Tuit at the Midwest Ford Casino night and his prayers were answered as no one there asked him about the Tuit. However Doug, Dean, Terry, Stan, Dave, Guy, Randy, and Reta Joy neglected to show some care and concern about a stupid hunk of metal. In the spirit of Christmas Freddy gave the Tuit to new member Troy Thode. NO MEETING ON FRIDAY December 27th due to the Christmas Holidays. Next regular meeting Friday January 3, 2014. McCreary is in his 25th year of taking on the persona of President Abraham Lincoln. He talked about Lincoln when as president Lincoln was often ridiculed in the press with outrageous cartoons. While speaking to any audience Lincoln would assess his audience in order to speak to them directly with their concerns in mind. Lincoln essentially educated himself and applied his knowledge of human nature to find solutions and apply them to the nation. THE WEEKLY FUND RAISER: Sergeant Brad hired Tony Powers to assist in collecting fines from Ambucs who did not call Tony in the last week. If you would like to call Tony in order to avoid paying another fine in the future, heres his number 620-200-8751. Deservingly Dennis Reiser was bestowed with an attaboy for his work to coordinate helpers to move Doc and Aavon to their new apartment. Jay Pitzer was fined for not knowing the difference between a blond and a brunette, hows that possible? Then somebody threw a tony in Tonys toliet, try not to ponder those words, and somebody paid for the misdeed.

TUIT REPORT: After three weeks President and Tuit Guard Dane Power pinpointed Doug, Jay, Fred, and maybe Darren for Tuit negligence. Then with a crocodile tear in his eye he gave the Tuit to lucky victim Fred Conner.

NO MEETING ON FRIDAY December 27th due to the Christmas Holidays.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AMBUCS PARTY: Tuesday December 17th at the Town Club, happy hour at 6:00 p.m. Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Randall Haltom wants to collect the money for the dinner, $27 per person, so bring your check book or cash.

FRED CONNER reported that 237 gift boxes were distributed to Head Start kids and offers thanks to all who donated money and assembled the gift boxes.

HARLEY MACKLIN announced that members of the club organizing The State of City Address will conduct a meeting on December 19th at 2:00 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce meeting room. Furthermore the event will take place on Thursday January 23rd at the Stringer Fine Art Center. Breakfast will be served beginning at 6:45 a.m.

Randall Haltom wants to announce that the Hutch High School HARMONICS, which is a girls varsity chorus group with about 12 girls, will sing Christmas Carols at our party. Randall reports a great response so far and hopes to have enough people attend so that we can have the larger dining room.

Also another casino night is on the schedule for December 26th and all dealers are needed as the Longfellow Foundation is a large group. Head Start: The meeting was adjourned about 7:15a.m. so the members went to Trinity United Methodist Church to pack the Christmas Boxes for Head Start kids.
