Dan and Jeff got it for something, Bob was late so I think he should put Brad on retainer, Scott was late and left early so a fine, Guy didnt have a badge so we need to hang it from the ceiling in the middle of the hall, Jeff Pfitzer was fined, Dave and Cathy bought one I think, Colby and Ward I guess were late, and Brads fining system is off from his bike ride, Colby could have gotten more fines I am sure

Dwight has been continuing on with small projects. If you need an extra key speak to Paul. Doyle has a picnic table for outside seating. Don will be conducting Square training. This weekend at the building the front awning and pikanik table are all that are really left. The ice cream will be delivered Monday between 7am and 8am and Square training, for managers, will immediately follow. We now have free waffle cone cards and Dwight is writing other peoples names on the cards.

What we do update

Doug’s wife had knee surgery and was at Pinnacle for physical therapy. A boy was there using an old AmTryke that Addy outgrew and passed on to the Pinnacle. This boy was on an AmTryke waiting list but was using this one to learn how to walk by the foot motion of the tricycle. Addy is now using a regular bicycle and walking.

Program

At the next Hutch High fundraiser he needs Colby to do it. Ryan moved from Liberal to Texas. He went to Fort Hays State on a track scholarship and started coaching in Wakeeney while he was still in college. He coached at Hays, revamped the program, and started them down a path to success before coming to Hutchinson. His son is in Central Christians preschool and his wife is a teacher at Graber. He has been asked why he would ever leave Hays and he says that it is because Hutchinson is a bigger deal. He revamped the program at Hays, because it needed to be, but Hutchinson is rolling along pretty well. They are starting to tweak the offensive playbook slowly and are teaching it to the middle and elementary school teams. This summer he spent most of his time trying to gain respect from the student athletes on the team. They had 17 practices, attended the HCC camp, he spent lots of time with them, and Ryan is trying to develop a culture in the high school that will produce better young people. They have 13 coaches on staff and he replaced 7 who went with the former coach.

Colby was excited at he was in charge of fines. That really doesn’t seem helpful Colby. Paul was fined for telling Colby he planned to “steal” all of his ticket money. When does the sheriff’s department speak again? I was fined for having a yellow car? Why not a white car or maybe a motorcycle. Jay called Colby, “Corey”. Jay, it’s COAL BEE. Harley and Steve’s whole table was fined for sitting together. Don’t do that again guys. Meet some new people. Darren said Colby is a nice person. He is, but was Darren fined for that? I don’t remember. Tom and I were fined for going through the line ahead of the Sergeant. I just didn’t want the food to get cold. We had a pin check and a few people don’t know how to put them on. Maybe we can have some lapel pinning lessons soon. One, why is your phone not on your hip? And two, why is the ringer not off Mr. President? Next we’ll catch you taking “selfies” at somber events. I don’t remember any other fines and no one felt fiscally free enough to buy one.

A lot of businesses she chooses can’t put themselves in front of Kansans without the fair. She always likes to add new or unusual food vendors. One fair visitor even has a “food” schedule. Visit Victory In the Valley while you are there. Hunter Hays is this years biggest artist. Red Dirt Country is a free concert this year.

Guests: Cindy Frederick Volunteer Agency/RSVP & speaker for the day

Jeff Brewers better half she had to drive herself

I think there was one other but did not write down the name.

Sergeants Corner:Of course we started with the standard Presidential fine. (Wonder if we can do that on a federal level?) Jeff was fined for making his wife drive herself. Duke got it and Harry was late with no badge. Doug, I think, couldnt find his badge so coughed up a fine. Eric was on time for once and Jeff seemed to be pushing for him. Colby helped fine his father who wanted to feed him biscuits to keep off of the radar. Harley wasnt fined much though he tried to cut off two of his fingers in a table saw. One table was feeling neglected so both gentlemen at that table were fined in order to feel special. Dan Power bought a fine because his twin would be celebrating a birthday (Dane hes a twin?). There were a few other fines but I missed the names. Brad will be on a motorcycle ride for a while so Colby will be in charge of fines for the next two weeks (look out Ward).

Announcements: Dan Power informed me that the Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting, for the Sweet Shoppe, will be Wednesday, September 3 at 4:30pm. Fred mentioned that almost everyone, whom was at breakfast, was signed up for their shifts at the Fair. However, there were still many slots available which need to be filled yet. Paul mentioned we were in week 10 of the project and that this weekend we would almost be finished. He mentioned we have the ice cream ordered, he thanked Curtis for the concrete, and mentioned the building was now closed during off hours so we cannot just show up and hope to get in to work. Dennis wanted to know about eating at the Fair and I think someone mentioned eating at Ye Olde Mill, the Pride of Kansas Building or Grannies at the Meadowlark Building. Jay asked if we wanted to use an old fashioned style paper hat for our uniform. Others mentioned they would prefer to stay with the ball caps.

Guests: Katie Hoss, therapy student and our speaker for today.

Sergeants Corner: Brad T and Stan M picked up where they left off last week by collecting the weekly presidential fine from Jeff R. Brad fined Dave S for the first time ever for leaving early last and missing out on winning the newsletter drawing. Colby D fined Jeff B (the sign guy) for being old. Expanding on this theme, Fred C and Terry B were fined for being old farts. Don G paid to announce that Jason is on his way home from his mission trip from India. They finished up with a pin check.

Announcements: Dwight W reported on the status of the Sweet Shoppe project. Virtually everything has been moved from the storage area to the booth. Lots of little jobs need to be finished, so a good group of volunteers is needed for this weekend; no special skills required.

Randle H reported on publicity for the opening of the Sweet Shoppe, using the newspaper and TV coverage. He is contacting Kent Burnett to take some pictures using his drone.

Doug F reported on the 2 amtrykes approved at this mornings board meeting. Presentations will be made in the near future.

Program: Katie Hoss is a therapy student at Maryville University in St Louis, MO. She has completed one year of a 6 year program that upon graduation, she will have a Doctorate degree. She became interested in a career in therapy through Brent Britton of Pinnacle Rehabilitation, who rehabbed her through 2 soccer injuries. The year she applied to Maryville University, 200 applications were received for 61 available slots. She feels she influenced those making the decision by her desire to help others. She has yet to decide what type of therapy in which to specialize, most likely sports or pediatrics. Since she lives in St Louis, which is the location of this years National Convention, we will find a way to help her attend.

Drawings: The Lucky Aces opportunity went to Fred C, who won $5. The total for next Friday will be $802.

levied a membership renewal fine on Jerry Regier. Next they collected the weekly presidential fine from Jeff R. Then they fined every member who did not work at the Sweet Shoppe during the last week. As they were collecting the funds, Brad gave Colby D a chance to pick the next fines. He quickly chose Jay P and his Dad. Then he fined Scott P and included Steve C, Doyle E, and Paul B. Tom H paid to announce that the State Fair sign up sheet was going around.

Announcements:

~Paul H reported on the status of the Sweet Shoppe rebuilding project. Most of the equipment has been moved in and properly placed. Some electrical work remains to be completed. Shelving is being installed. There is still inside work to be completed and we need more volunteers If you have recent photos, please email them to Terry Brigman, who is putting hem together for display is the booth. Work will begin at 8:00 Saturday morning.

~Doug F reported on the Community Affairs committee me, who approved 2 amtrykes to take to the board for approval. The members approved putting the amtrykes on order.

Program:

Brian Davis believes that there is too little communication within the legislature. He is committed to finding a common ground with everyone. He is a graduate of WSU and Boston University with a major in Theology and Ethics. He and his wife traveled extensively, recently returning to Hutchinson to be closer to family

Chris Givins is a 2009 graduate of Hutchinson High School and is attending WSU. He considers himself to be a political moderate. He agrees with Mr. Davis that there is a lack of communication at the legislative level.

Guests:

Jack Manske and Kristen Garlow Piper, our speakers for today. No other guests for the third week in a row.

Sergeants Corner:

Sheriff Brad and Deputy Stan M returned this week to harass members and collect fines. As noted above, no guests means every one pays $1. While collecting their fines, they noticed three members who failed to display their membership pins. Scott P, Jeff B, and John K paid an additional $1 for this oversight. Brad allowed Harley M to float an IOU to advertise the Red T Golf Classic next Friday at 8:30 at Sand Creek Station Golf Course.

Announcements:

1. Paul H reported on the status of the Sweet Shoppe building project. Move in is still on target for this week. Most remaining work will be inside clean-up in nature. Lots of volunteers needed; no specific skill required.

2. Harley M announced that plans are being made for this years State of the City Meeting. Tentatively the location is planned for the auditorium of the Fine Arts Center on the HCC campus. He will keep us advised of further developments.

3. Doug F called a meeting of the Community Affairs Committee for 6:00 next Friday morning.

4. Doug F announced a fund-raising program for Circles of Hope at Trinity United Church on Saturday, August 2nd at 7:00 PM in the Warner Wing. Admission is $8.00 and entertainment will be provided by the musical group Run Boy Run.

Program:

Jack Manske and Kristen Garlow Piper brought us an update on the Wiley Plaza refurbishing project, a creative response to a growing demand for rental living in the area. In addition to approximately 11,500 square feet of retail space, it is comprised of 73 one, two, and three bedroom apartments. Projected availability date is 12/24/14, and there is a waiting list of over 170 interested parties at this time. The total cost of the project is $18 million dollars, and they expect having no problem in maintaining to required 93% occupancy level.

Drawings:

Guests:Kent Burnett, our guest speaker for today. No other guests were noted

Sergeants Corner:

Standing in for Brad and Stan were Ward and Colby Davis. They started by fining President Jeff for beginning the meeting late, thus saving themselves $2 for being late. Long lost member Tim Davies paid a re-up fine. Tim showed up because Tony Powers reminded him how much fun this group is during an eye exam. Mark T was assessed a Deep Pockets fine for recently selling his business. Paul H offered to pay his fine since Mark has spent his retirement painting the new fair booth. Jeff B paid to purchase one very ugly cap left at the booth. Guy G paid because Deputy Colby felt his yellow shirt did not go with his black pants. Those of us who are WSU fans were duly insulted, but laughed anyway.

Ambuc Sweet Shoppe Report:

The outside painting is complete thanks to Mark T. The inside ceiling is installed and Steve C and Fred C are completing the wiring. The outside lighting is installed and the inside layout has been taped. The scheduled move in date is on target for the week of August 4th. If you havent been by for a week or so, pay a visit and see what volunteer labor can accomplish.

Program:

Kent Burnett spent most of his career as a Commercial Advertising Photographer, a career that all but disappeared with the advent of smart phones and ipads. In an effort to start a new means of support, he purchased his UAV (Unmanned Arial Vehicle) in Feb 2014. He spent the next 4 months training himself how to fly his UVA in high wind conditions and rough tilled ground. He shared with us the film he developed for Kuhn Krause and has high hopes for developing a relationship with them. He has worked with a friend to develop a program for the real estate market. He believes there is potential in law enforcement, fire prevention, and wind turbine inspection and repair. His big concern now is the FAA becoming involved in regulating UVA activities.

Drawings:

The Lucky Aces opportunity went to Jay, who won $5, putting the total for next Friday at $703. Darren W knew to answer to the Newsletter Question, donating the $45 to the fair booth project. The question for next Friday is Who encouraged Tim Davies to attend todays meeting?

Future Meetings:
