PROGRAM: Kathy Hanks introduced Virginia Thorton, Senior Case Manager for Disability Supports and Jenna Parli, Clayworks in McPherson Store Manager. Disability Supports of the Great Plains provides individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities with full-time and part-time services in Reno and McPherson County. Case management begins as young as 5 years of age through 17. Adult case management begins at age 18 and currently their oldest client is 73. Disability Supports also operates an art studio for those they serve called Clayworks in McPherson. Here their clients create works of art from clay, basket weaving, painting and drawing. The clients sell their art in their gallery and the clients keep 100 percent of the proceeds. They also operate “One Door North” also in McPherson next to Clayworks presenting works of art from a variety of regional artists. Disability Supports has purchased and is currently remodeling the old Hutchinson Clinic building at 12th & Main in Hutchinson which will soon house their offices and a Hutchinson Clayworks art gallery. In the state of Kansas there are currently over 6,000 individuals needing services such as those provided by Disability Supports and T.E.C.H. Unfortunately funding limits the number of individuals that can be served.
Lucky Ace Drawing: Brad Thompson drew the 4 of Diamonds for $5 and donated it to Disability Supports. I assume the pot is $500 plus by now.
Newsletter Drawing: Duke Wiggins didn’t have a clue.
Newsletter Question: For $?…Where will the new Disability Supports offices & Clayworks art studio be located in Hutchinson?
Calendar: County Commissioner Bob Bush. Invite a guest for breakfast!
