Sergeant’s Corner: Sheriff Troy and deputy Steve Conard started by fining every member who failed to produce a Lucky Aces ticket. They collected the Presidential fine from Thad. They then completed a pin check and then rang out.
Program:
For several years the Communities in Schools has provided funding for a staff person to help students at Hutchinson High School who are struggling in classes. That staff person is Nickee Byard, who is the listening ear, the voice of wisdom, and the source of encouragement for these students. Many of them lack adequate clothing, hygiene items, and lunch funds. Most of them lack parental guidance and support. Nickee fills the gap for these at-risk students. Unfortunately, this funding is running out on June 30, 2017. Local churches, civic organizations, and individuals such as Mike Wamsley have banded together to raise awaarness of this situation and raise funding so that Nickee can continuing her efforts. To date $58,000 has been raised, which should continue the program for at least this year. The next step is to search out future funding through grant writing, tapping into funding that supporters are convinced is available. We can help by spreading the word that this program is much needed at HHS.
Drawings:
Lucky Aces 50/50 drawing was won by Duke Wiggins, who donated his $5 to the new Salthawk Community Support Program.
The newsletter drawing went to Bob Tolar, who was had to leave for work before the drawing. Pot goes to $10. Next weeks questionis “What is the new name for Nickee’s program at HHS?”
