FINES: Doug Foss with assistance from Sadye Patterson collected this weeks fines. Doug fined all those who didnt work last weeks Casino Night and those who didnt attend the State of the City Address.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Special thanks to Harley Macklin, Ward Davis and all those members that helped to make this years State of the City Address a special annual event.

PROGRAM: Kathy Hanks introduced Lance Patterson, Director of Operations on the Boys and Girls Club of Hutchinson. B&GC has been in Hutchinson since 1995 expanding from the Kids After School program. B&GC locally has about 1,000 members per year and serves an average of 350-400 per day at three sites, Shadduck Park, Avenue A Elementary and Faris Elementary. Students are mainly from Hutchinson schools but can attend from outside Hutchinson. 254 members are age 13 and older and they have expanded teen programming to include a financial course, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) modules and a new DIY module. B&GC teaches Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles and Character and Leadership. Lance introduced Evelyn Leyva who was crowned 2017 Youth of the Year at their December 1st banquet. It is the highest honor a B&GC member can receive. Evelyn has been at the Club since second grade. She is a freshman at Hutch High and works part-time at TJ Max. Evelyn spoke about growing up in B&GC and how much the program has helped her. Evelyn will now compete statewide and if she wins will compete nationally with the opportunity to win cash scholarships at each level. She plans to attend JUCO and K-State to become a math teacher.
