Sergeants Corner: Brad T and Stan M began with the weekly presidential fine for Jeff R. Eric S paid for showing up early for the second week in a row. Tom H and Duke W paid for the newsletter that showed up about 5:00 on Thursday afternoon. Paul B paid for badmouthing skateboarding parks. Dwight W paid for the buttshot as a part of Kathy Hanks otherwise wonderful article on the booth rebuilding project. The sergeants then went from table to table playing trivial pursuit or pay. Harley M paid his weekly fine to remind us of the Red Cross Golf Tournament in Newton on August 1st.
Announcements: Paul H updated the club on the status on rebuilding the ice cream booth. Everything is on target at time. Concrete flooring will be poured this morning. The new freezer is set to arrive on June 26th. Work will then consist of putting the siding back on, stringing the electrical wiring by Steve C, and completing the inside work. We will hear about the new front faade next week at our regular meeting time of 7:00AM.
Program: Ken Stephens has been studying WWI for months and has to be the local expert on the subject, particularly as it affected the men and women of Reno County. On June 28, 1914 the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, and his wife touched off WWI. Beginning with this Sundays Hutchinson News, daily articles will appear through Friday highlighting Reno Countys participation in the WWI, culminating in a summary article on Saturday, June 28th.
Drawings: The Lucky Aces drawing earned Carol Carr $5. The new total is $592. The Newsletter opportunity went to Craig Johnson, who knew nothing. The pot goes the $35 next Friday. The question for next Friday is Who was the first Reno County man killed in action while serving in U.S. military during WWI?
