HUTCHINSON CHAPTER OF AMBUCS
GUESTS: Amanda Bouy (Program) with the Boys & Girls Club. Ron Roberson, guest and brother of Jeff Roberson. Brady Yoder (Amtryke Recipient) with his parents, Taylor & Natalie Yoder, and his sisters, Hailey & Ashley Yoder.
THE SERGEANTS SLAUGHTER: Sergeant Slaughter, Brad Thompson, and Deputy Dog, Stan Macgirvin were quick to the task of collecting cash to save time for the Amtryke presentation and the program. Those fined include Darren Wicks (Presidential Fine), Curtis Mitchell (past Pres. Fine), Preston Clark (late), Rick Mitchell (?), Dean Brigman (Impersonating a Bridgman Oil Employee) & Terry Brigman (not defending Brads honor). Board Meeting fines included Doug Foss (late), Duke Wiggins (late) & Dane Power (skipped the meeting). Brad ended the slaughter with Youve been fined by the best and you can forget the rest. Don Grossardt bought a fine for his son Jason being spotted on National TV during the coverage of the KSU Football game on Sept. 8th. [(Since when do they release the name of the streaker?)(thanks to an anonymous AMBUC for this quote)]
THE PRESIDENTS REIGN: President Wicks presented highlights from the Board Meeting. Board approved contributing the same donation amount as last year to this years Disability Supports Mentoring Day. Ice Cream Booth Sales as of end of the day Thursday were down approximately $2100 from last years sales. Ice Cream Building Committee and the T-Shirt Committee will be gearing up as soon as possible to make decisions regarding the future of these important AMBUC projects. If you are not already assigned to a committee, contact Darren to join one as we need the input of all members of the club.
CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS: Signup sheets are going around for the upcoming Casino Nights (Sept. 29th) & (Oct. 13th)
AMTRYKE PRESENTATION: A toddler sized Amtryke was presented to Brady Yoder. Smiles filled the room as Brady was given a test run on his new Amtryke. The joy the Yoder family showed today is the perfect example of why we do what we do.
PROGRAM: Amanda Bouy (Boys & Girls Club) came to speak to the club as our Grant Writer for the Proposed Ice Cream Building. Amanda was really excited being able to see firsthand what we do with our funds. Amanda has a lot of experience with grant writing, securing various grants for the Boys & Girls Club for daily operations as well as improvements. As Amanda began doing research of numerous foundations, she was able to zero in on one specific foundation that she thought would be a perfect fit for our proposed project, The Sunderland Foundation. The Sunderland Foundation has invested in the places and spaces where nonprofits do their work, with some of their areas of interest including Higher Education and Youth Services and including hitting a homerun on their Geographical Focus of giving. The Sunderland Foundation also has a history of funding Brick and Mortar projects, including building construction, renovation, repairs and restoration. The Sunderland Foundation is based out of Overland Park, KS, and was established from the Sunderland family from the Ash Grove Cement Company. Amanda believes that this foundation should be the main focus as Plan A of our Grant search. She has also identified a couple other foundations that we can fall back on for a Plan B and/or Plan C, but they did not seem to be as perfect of a match. Amanda will be in communication with the Ice Cream Building Committee as well as other members of the club to gather information for a Letter of Inquiry to the foundation as well as information for the Grant Application as we move forward. If anyone is interested in more information on the foundation, you can go to www.sunderlandfoundation.org.
