AMBUCS Newsletter 9/23/11

Editor: Jeff Roberson

Guest: Bill Hermes

Sergeants: Paul Brown won the 50/50 pot last week with fake tickets. There is some speculation that Paul didnt actually purchase the tickets, but well leave that up to a judge to decide. Since there was some question about the authenticity of his tickets, he was fined for the win. Curtis got fined for almost knocking over the name badges this morning. Duke got fined for, well, being Duke. Others got fined for various reasons. We had a few late comers, Randall, Christie and Ward, so they had to pay a tidy fine. Brad decided to raise some more fine money by asking questions about old TV shows. For example, what happened on September 23rd, 1977? Farrah Fawcett was replaced on Charlies Angels by Cheryl Ladd. The first broadcast of Marcus Welby, M.D. was on September 23rd, 1957. Needless to say, many fines were paid and few accurate answers were provided. There were some good wrong answers, though. Jeff Brewer bought a fine to announce his first Grand Son being born!

Announcements: The AMBUCS golf classic is October 4th, the entrance fee is $15, see Guy Gann for more information. Jim Jacobs thanked everyone for the help at the booth this year. Fred also echoed Jim and thanked everyone too. Fred said that we still have some tubs of ice cream left to purchase. The cost is $25 per tub. Jay reminded everyone about the Casino night for Cause for Paws. Doug Foss said that the Circles of Hope was having information meetings on September 29th and October 6th if anyone is interested. Curtis reminded us about the upcoming Rod Run.

Program: Bill Hermes talked about Bob Johnsons and the Reno County Youth Shelter and Juvenile Detention Centers. The center is located at 219 W 2nd. They first opened in 1983 and moved into their current location in 1989. They offer services not only to Reno County, but to a wide area surrounding our county with the exception of Sedgwick County. If you or an organization is interested in tours, they are happy to give them. You can contact Bill Hermes for more information and to schedule a tour.

Drawings: The 50/50 pot was won by Fred for $23. Randy Hendrickson didnt know the newsletter question, so its up to $35.

Newsletter Question: Approximately how many youth does Bob Johnsons Youth Shelter serve annually?
