AMBUCS Newsletter 8/26/2011

Editor: Jeff Roberson

Guests: Lynette Lacey, Duranda Simmons, Nancy Conard

Sergeants: Fines were handed out as usual. Ward Davis was late. Duke has won the pot two weeks in a row and hasnt paid his fine. So he got fined this morning. Jeff Roberson, your faithful editor, got fined for missing Hank Yoder last week as a guest. New members to the club got a harassment tax. Jerry decided to see how much we knew about the Fair and fair facts. Apparently there 155 tons of used bedding disposed of after the Fair. Who weighs this stuff? We all seemed to disagree that there are actually 850 toilets at the Fair. There are 80 food vendors, so the ratio of food vendors to toilets is 8:85. The largest watermelon is 184 pounds. The Old Mill began operations in 1915. The Fair covers 280 acres.

Announcements: Steve Harmon announced that he lost his job over at Star Lumber. So Steve wont be joining us for breakfast for a while. If you know of an opening, please let him know. He still is planning on working his shifts at the ice cream booth. Our fearless President, Curtis encouraged us to attend the AMBUCS Bricktown Great Plains Fall Conference in Oklahoma City from Thursday October 13th to Sunday the 15th. Our District is also in need of a Visibility Chairperson. Interested? Contact Curtis for more information. Jay is looking for more help for the Casino nights that are coming up. Cause for Paws is September 24th right after the Fair. Holy Cross is October 22 at Holy Cross. Please see Jay to sign up. Looking for a Blue Dragon discount card? Jay hopes so, see him to buy one. Jim Jacobs talked about the booth; its ready to go for another year. We (Jim?) is adding another flavor to the lineup, Birthday Party. If it goes well, Jim wants the credit, if not blame the committee. Fred says we are in trouble for the last weekend of the Fair for the booth. If you have not signed up for three shifts, we need the help to cover the last weekend.

Program: Lynette Lacey talked about the Circles of Hope Reno County initiative. Their goals are to create bridges of relationship between families in poverty and middle-class members of churches. Walk with families as they are equipped to help themselves completely out of poverty. Help connect community resources for a more comprehensive, holistic approach to ending poverty. Address barriers to self-sufficiency in the community. Affirm those who have left poverty in becoming role models and resources to others. If you are interested in helping out the program you can contact Lynette at lynette@klconnections.com or Rev. Jeff Prothro at jmprothro@sbcglobal.net.

Drawings: The 50/50 pot was won by Mr. Darrin Wicks. He donated the money to Circles of Hope. Randall Haltom drew the newsletter question, and to my disappointment he didnt know the question. So, its up to $15.

Newsletter Question: Sticking with the Fair question theme, what did the 2002 Sky Ride cost to build?
