Newsletter 08/12/2011

Guests: Benedick, Savanah

Fines: Randy got fined for announcing the TECH golf tournament before the Sargent rang in. Steve forgot the newsletter chips last week, but had them with him today so he got a retroactive fine. Rita apparently sent out an email with a single “H” in it. I guess the Sargent didn’t appreciate the brevity of it. Guy bought a fine to announce his “80th” anniversary of marriage. Darrin arrived after the guest speaker this morning, but Dennis B helped out getting Savanah setup. Fines were also handed out because we should eat healthy breakfasts since we will be enjoying the fried food cornucopia at the Fair that is right around the corner. Those who felt like they were enjoying an unhealthy breakfast should kick in a buck. Thanks to Doug who kicked it off, most of us chipped in a buck. Then Scott rang out.

Announcements: Vicki Tangeman joined us this morning. She gave a nice update about the National Conference. She gave Rick the Club 100% award. She complimented us in being one of the top 15% Clubs in the nation. The district meeting is coming up in October on the 13th through the 15th in Oklahoma City. Vicki also talked about the Wish List Club where for $1 a day one can purchase an AmTryke. Individuals, companies or clubs can participate. Vicki also talked about the Veterans ride at the National conference. She was touched by what we are doing to help out the Vets. I found a link to the article here http://eastmemphis.wmctv.com/news/veterans-amtryke-ride-features-therapeudic-cycling-courtesy-ambucs/56101

Curtis, our fearless leader, talked about the 6:15AM board meeting. Kids Play is a company that helps design playgrounds for the handicapped. There may be an opportunity for our Club to help out the City of Hutchinson with the new 43rd Avenue park. It was also discussed about the possibility of offering a junior membership to help attract new members. The AMBCS golf tournament is also coming up in the September/October time frame, look for more information in the newsletter or at breakfast. August 20th at 8:00am is booth cleanup.

Program: Savanah Benedick from the Planning Department with the City of Hutchinson presented a nice program about Brush Up Hutch. The idea is to offer, on a needs basis, paint so people can paint their houses. Only a limited number of people have participated so far and funds are still available. There is more information on the City of Hutchinson web site.

Drawings: Randy won the spot for the TECH golf tournament. That seems a bit suspicious. The 50/50 pot was won by Duke for $30. Larry Slone won the newsletter drawing for $50.

Newsletter Question: When was AMBUCS founded?
