Weekly Meeting of the Hutchinson Ambucs: Tom Hymer, editor
Guests: Randy Hendrickson introduced Steve Stowers who presented todays program.
The Sergeants have some mercy, for example, Kathleen Kennedy was excused for getting in the breakfast line before the sergeant because she is a new member. However there was no mercy for President Scott who was fined for embellishment of the weather, nor for Jay Pitzer for driving his car, nor for Doug Foss for living in the Highlands, nor for Jim Kicklighters tardiness.
The Round Tuit: FYI – Dean Brigman is out for a couple of weeks, fair warning. Now then, in a stunning development Jay Pitzer claimed he has the original Tuit which begs the question, what kind of Tuit did he give to Dean Brigman last week? What is going on? Well, Pitzer exclaimed and explained that this is the introduction of putting two Tuits into circulation and he bestowed todays Tuit on new member Geoff Tolbert. Hey, why not, double your Tuits and double your fun.
Club Announcements: President Scott talked about Fall Branding urging everyone to invite guests to our weekly meetings. He emphasized that new members create a ripple effect in the success of club projects with their help and enthusiasm. Scott recognized three members who over the years have brought in many new members, 18 by Doug Foss, 30 by Jay Pitzer, and over 30 by Fred Conner. A round of applause and a big attaboy for these dedicated recruiters. Scott presented a letter from Stephanie Weiler of the American Cancer Society expressing their appreciation for the support our club contributes to Camp Hope. It makes a difference to the kids with cancer that they can participate in some activities like the other kids.
Program: Randy Hendrickson introduced Steve Stowers Executive Officer of Young Marines. The Young Marines is a youth education and service program for boys and girls, ages 8 through completion of high school. The Young Marines promotes the mental, moral, and physical development of its members. The program focuses on character building, leadership, and promotes a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. Currently there are 15 youth enrolled in the Salty Dawg local chapter, http://www.saltydawgyoungmarines.com/id15.html . They have official uniforms which cost about $150 each. Their activities include Boot Camp with 26 hours of training, color guard services at ceremonies, honoring the veterans, and performing community service. The Young Marines are a non-profit organization relying on car washes, donations, and corporate sponsorships, Walmart being the largest.
Drawings: Tom Hymer won the 50/50 pot of $25 which he donated to the Young Marines. Somebodys name was drawn for the newsletter question, however he/she was not present. The newsletter question for Friday this week is: What is the name of the local chapter of the Young Marines?

For New Members, What is the Round Tuit? Brad Thompson is the founder of the Round Tuit when he was president about 10 years ago. Its a large metal washer with Round Tuit stamped on it. When a member of the club is blessed with the Round Tuit he is responsible for the care and welfare of the Tuit until the next club meeting. During the week he should have the Tuit on his person at all times in the event that he may encounter another Ambuc(s). If that Ambuc(s) fail to ask about the Tuit they are reported at the next meeting and fined for negligence and/or ignorance. However if the Tuit care-taker does not have the Tuit when he encounters another Ambuc(s) then he must pay a fine. Tuit care-takers pay a fine to give their report and to pass the Tuit unto another Ambuc. The idea is to get to know the other members in the club and look silly in public with stupid hand gestures. What is the 50/50 pot? Like gambling and politics it has been around for a long time. Only the deceased would know when it started. At each meeting numbered tickets are sold for $1 each or 3 for $2. Generally the total proceeds are about $40 to $50 which is split in half. One half goes to the Living Endowment Fund of the Club and is directed to scholarships for student therapists. The other half is awarded to the person holding the called number of the ticket drawn. At some time it became the custom for the winner to donate the money won to non-profits and charitable organizations if they were presenting their program at the meeting.
