Hutchinson Chapter of AMBUCS
Editors: Jerry Dalton & Duke Wiggins
Guests: Gary Meagher, Reno County Manager, and our speaker for this morning
Geoff Tolbert & Kathleen Kennedy, guests of Doug Foss
Ron Quick, guest of Jay Pitzer
Jim Jacobs, guest of Dean Brigman
Sergeants Playground: Sgt Knipp returned with his sidekick Deputy Hendrickson, expressing his gratitude to Larry Sloan for standing in for him last Friday by putting $1 in the pot in his honor. Next, recognition to the steak cooks who sweated over the grill at last Saturdays BlowOut. That would be Jeff Brewer, Steve Harmon and Doug Foss. However, they were each assessed a fine for mixing up the how cooked signs at the serving window. Next, every member in attendance who failed to attend the BlowOut paid a buck. Lets see they didnt show up to eat free food, and then paid a buck for not eating it. Sounds like a stupid tax to me. Eric S paid his weekly late fee and Jim K paid for telling a bad lawyer joke (are there any good ones?).
Tuit: Ward Davis was a no show and rumor has it that the Tuit is no longer yellow.
Announcements: Kudos all around for a wildly successful BlowOut last Saturday. Over 100 members, spouses, and guests attended. The food was first rate and the presentations by our community partners were both informative and entertaining. Eric S, Duke W and Fred C reported on the status of the Ice Cream Booth. American Fund Foods will deliver supplies on Friday the 4th. Ice Cream will be delivered by Sysco on the morning of Labor Day the 7th a good show of hands indicated we will have plenty of help to unload the truck. By the time Fred left this mornings meeting, virtually all work slots were filled, including several by prospective members. Eric thanked every one for stepping up and doing their part.
The next 2 meetings will be off-site as follows:
Sept 4th Meet at the Ice Cream Booth at the fairgrounds for instructions and to pick up your gate tickets. Enter at the 20th and Poplar Street gate. Someone will be stationed at that gate to direct you to the booth.
Sept 11th Meet at the WaterTreatmentCenter at 23rd and Severance for breakfast. Ron Diamond, the hypnotist from the Fair, will be our program.
Program: Doug F introduced our new County Mgr. Gary Meagher.
Gary gave us some information about his family and his past work experience. Keeping in mind Gary has been in his job approximately 30 days, he touched on some of his initial impressions regarding Reno Countys financial future, infrastructure needs etc.. Garys focus right now is budget and getting out into the community to listen to the residents. He informed us that a Bridge Fund has been formed to help with repair /replacement of bridges. Gary is pleased with the transition he is going through and is focused on being sure everyone is on the same page as the planning moves forward. Gary emphasized that planning is key, and he is working on prioritizing now. He feels the transition of having a CountyMgr. for the first time is going well. In response to a question, he said that he is taking a close look at the cost of health insurance and hopes to provide the employees with some options next year.
