PRAYERS & CONCERNS:
Scott Potucek, our esteemed President Elect, ran the meeting in President Als absence. Al and Jan are in Pagosa Springs, CO on vacation. While this was not known at the time of our meeting, they stopped in Ulysses Thursday evening, and when Al awoke on Friday morning, he was feeling quite ill. Jan made him go to the local clinic where it was discovered that Als heart was malfunctioning. They flew he and Jan to the Kansas Heart Institute, where it was discovered the one half of Als heart was not receiving an adequate blood supply due to a severe blockage. The blockage was removed, a stent inserted to keep the blood flowing and kept him over the weekend. He came home on Tuesday and recovering well. No golf yet, but he does plan to be at the meeting on Friday. It pays to listen to your wife, at least some of the time. Also , please continue to keep Fred and Barbara Conner in your prayers. Her mother condition remains the same, and Fred will be having his injury repaired at Wesley Hospital on Wednesday.
We should have an update on Fred on Friday.
PROGRAM:
As the communitys largest convention center, the Grand Prairie is a vital part of Hutchinsons economy. Sandy Harner, the Director of Sales, reported that the convention business is booming in Hutch. Her job is to bid on conventions, and she can be very competitive in the arena. In fact, the only thing holding her back is lack of convention space. Thus, the owner is embarking on an ambitious remodeling project designed to correct this problem. The water park is closing to make room for more convention space and better traffic flow within the building. Sandy concentrates her sales efforts on the large number of associations located within Kansas. Her big selling points are location, her pricing, and the local attractions (including our excellent golf courses. When the remodeling is complete, she will be able to bid on some of the larger conventions, bring more people and money into the community. Jennifer Black is currently the Director of Catering Services, but has been with the Grand Prairie since it reopened under current management. The Grand Slam restaurant has become the gathering place for Hutchinsons influx of young professionals which the community has been targeting for future growth. Thanks to both Sandy and Jennifer for updating us on the Grand Prairie and its plans for the coming year.
