Meeting date: 9/12/2008
Guests: Travis Ewing, former member and guest of Doug Hoopes.
Orie Ensz, guest of Brenda Janda
Fun with the Sergeants: The sergeants started off with a bang, fining Scott P. twice (no minutes for the board mtg. and no mention of AMBUCS in the Hutch Magazine article on his mother. Next they nailed Brad B. for a publicity tax, as he volunteered to represent the AMBUCS at the fair booth on TV (did anyone see his AMBUC pin?) Then poor Duke.seems he called himself at the ice cream booth on his cell phone and confusion ensued. The sergeants claim that Dukes brain was fried because of all the hard work he has put into this years booth. Finally everyone with no AMBUCS pin was fined a buck!
Brenda Janda had the TUIT, and she really spread the love by fining everyone with no small guest TUIT in their pocket. She then proceeded to fine those who did not ask about the TUIT during the week; Bob, Stan, Tom, Pam, Al, Eric, Preston and the entire Community Service Committee. Finally, with no fanfare, she dropped the TUIT on Pam Brooks.
Al reported the Boards recommendation of supplying AMTRYKES to two Kansas youngsters from the National Wish List, one from Iola and one from Conway Springs.
Jeff Brewer announced the drawing for the last spot on the Tech Golf Tournament Team.
Eric S. reported on the Ice Cream Booth sales to date. With only 2 days of decent weather so far, sales are running behind last year. We hope for good weather for this weekend to help make up the difference. He also announced that the booth received Grand Champion Award for our category. He thanked everyone for stepping up again, as usual. Duke received special accolades for being a superstar with lots of extra effort.
Doug Foss advised that a special thanks was also owed to Travis Ewing and Grainger for once again donating the gloves we use when dipping ice cream.
Chuck Peterson shared a very touching experience he had while collecting money at the booth this week. A mother brought her child through the line to purchase a cone for her. The child was in an ambulatory device, and mother was struggling to find enough money to pay for the cone. Chuck pointed out that we dont charge for children with disabilities, and offered the cone for free. Mom was so touched, she cried. This should remind us all why we do what we do. It is amazing the impact a free dip of ice cream can have!
Program: Curtis Mitchell gave a very informative talk about the hospital name change and the three year plan for expansion. He spoke in detail about the re-branding process, the specific construction plans and a Phase I $120 million fund raising campaign for capital improvements.
Nice job of extemporaneous speaking Curtis, and Darren really owes you big time.
