Newsletter 05/16/2008

Paul W. Brown-Editor.

In lieu of the report on fines and the TUIT, we are taking this opportunity to ask the membership for its assistance in producing the weekly newsletter. The newsletter format is as follows: GUESTS, FINES, TUIT REPORT, PROGRAM, CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS, 50/50 POT and NEWSLETTER QUESTION. The newsletter is usually limited to one 8-1/2 X 11 page using Microsoft Word. Literary genius is not required (although I, of course, have it!). The Word document is then posted to the website; and the website is definitely user friendly. We did not have a sufficient number of newsletter editors for 2007-2008 so the need for editors in the upcoming AMBUC year is even greater. Please consider volunteering to help as an editor; and contact Duke Wiggins to do so. (Until we have sufficient volunteers for the newsletter, the FINES and TUIT REPORT will continue to SLEEP WITH THE FISHES!)

TUIT: By the way, Bob Bush gave the TUIT to Guy Gann.

PROGRAM: The membership received a legislative update from fellow AMBUC and State Representative for the 101st District, Mark Treaster. While coal fired utility plants left a cloud over the 2008 legislative session, there were still 157 bills approved by the House and Senate. Some of the topics of the new laws included: expansion of health care, campaign reform, closing of corporate tax loopholes, Cessna bonding, funeral picketing ban and increasing voting sites. If you have questions regarding new legislation or other matters that should be addressed by the Kansas legislature, contact Mark at treaster@house.state.ks.us. We appreciate the public service that Mark Treaster provides in Topeka on behalf of Reno County residents.
