FINES Ward Davis and Doyle Ehling were our Sgt.At-Arms. Ward fined Bob Bush for starting the meeting late. Bob blamed Don Grossardt as an accessory, who was also fined. Rick Mitchell paid to announce he is a first time Grandfather with a new Granddaughter in Colorado. They let him off easy without paying by the pound. They fined Eric Steinle for his alarm clock for sounding during the board meeting. He said it reminds him to get up and attend AMBUCS, which explains why he is ALWAYS late. Peggy McConnaughy and Pam Brooks paid for being late. Bob Bush was also fined for bringing the Clydesdales for the Main Street Hops instead of one of the female models from their magazine ads. He said he could afford horses but the models were not even in his budget.

ANNOUNCEMENTS The NJCAA tournament is finally here!! Be sure to show up for your scheduled work periods. There is a work schedule posted on the web site. You will need to contact a board member for the password if you were not at breakfast Friday. The password was also sent to the membership via e-mail.

Following the board meeting the Board decided to eliminate the clubs financial subsidy for club socials such as the holiday party, the installation banquet and other socials to help trim costs. This amount is currently budgeted at $1,000 to $1,500. Also the Board recommends to raise dues $2 per month from $35 to $37. The last increase in dues was in 2000. With our current membership of 74, this would raise almost $1,800 per year. This would eliminate any financial shortfall for the foreseeable future. This was a first reading of this recommendation and will be voted on by the membership in two weeks. If approved it would become effective June 1st.

It was recommended by the Community Service committee and approved by the Board to give $1,600 to T.E.C.H. for their computer lab. Also approved, to give $200 to the early Ed Center for their annual carnival. To give Kansas Special Olympics $850 and our local Special Olympics Hawks $1,000 was also approved. Also approves to spend $150 for a splint for McKella Headings and an AmTryke for Xavier Benson.

PROGRAM Randy Hendrickson introduced Kirby List as our speaker. Kirby is the Executive Director of our YMCA and has been in that position since February 2003 after Jason Jones left. The local YMCA has been in existence since 1875. The local Y currently operates on a $1.5 million dollar annual budget. There are 9 program directors with a staff of 80-90 part-time employees. Membership varies, depending on the competition, with 4,500 at the end of 2002 and 6,500 at the end of March 2006 after Pinnacle closed. They receive $40,000 from the United Way with the majority of their income from memberships and fees with the bulk of it spent locally. They award over $125,000 in scholarships and financial support to individuals who need assistance with membership and fees. Kirby passed out a flyer listing the facility features, benefits, hours, programs and membership rates. Kirby also gave a 10-question quiz and some additional questions on YMCA trivia to the membership awarding two T-shirts and a sports bottle as prizes.
