TUIT REPORT

Randy Henderson kept the Tuit in Jail much of the week, and even offered to keep it another week. The vote was unanimous, but ignored. Duke, Scott, and Bob donated for not asking. Because Bob Bush was the first to vote in favor of Randy keeping the tuit, he was blessed with it. Be sure and think of the tuit every time you raise a glass this week.

PROGRAM:

Randall Haltom introduced Captain Katrina Gier Lewison, a Blackhawk Helicopter pilot in the Army, and recently returned from her tour of duty in Iraq. She graduated from West Point in 2000 and from Buhler High School prior to that.

She presented a slide show tour of the parts of Iraq she had served in, and gave specifics regarding her units duties. After flying numerous missions as a Platoon Leader, she took a job as an S-4 Logistics Officer. This meant she was in charge of employing many local people as laborers in the repair and restoration of the buildings stripped by Sadams troops. She had never been an employer before, so she had to learn about getting paid employees to perform their duties. Many had been used to not having to do anything under Sadam. Most of the locals are happy to see the US troops and the help they provide. Many are not the religious fanatics we hear so much about. Her unit has built 20 schools and medical clinics, including all the furnishings. The kids are thrilled to have a school to attend, but there were still shortages of teachers. Many parents have wound up teaching, for no pay. (almost sounds like home) She told of seeing a young Iraqi wearing a t-shirt that said Someone in Kansas Loves You. Local Optometrist Doug Ball donated several hundred pairs of reading glasses, for use in the medical clinics.

It is still a very dangerous place to be, but our troops are doing a great job of exhibiting self-control. Their morale is fine; each soldier is concentrating on his job, not on the political war being waged in the media.
