FINES

Jim Kicklighter with help from Mark Clark levied this week’s fines.

Brenda Janda was fined a membership renewal tax for her long absence. Preston Clark paid for not calling Brenda as a membership committee procedure. Bob Bush was fined for not introducing the morning program. Mark Clark was fined for being late (breaking with tradition of not fining the Sgt.s). Steve Conard paid a fine for having one too many at a Christmas party, that both Sgt.s attended.

This weeks game by the Sgt.s was What does that member do for a living? … Nathan Meyer, Randall Haltom, Curtis Mitchell and Vern Powers didnt and were fined but several others did and were safe (for now).

PROGRAM

Brenda Janda introduced Joy Robinson with Senior Secure Solutions. Joys business is to help people, mostly seniors age 55 or older, to safely grow and protect their life savings. Basically retirement planning. She also assists seniors with finding the best solution for long-term care a subject she finds most people have avoided dealing with.

Nationwide statistics show 70% of people over age 65 will need a retirement home and 20% of people 85 years of age or older reside in a retirement home. Locally costs can reach $50,000 a year with costs in larger cities reaching $70,000 or more for nursing home care. Dont count on Medicare to pay for care and Medicaid only pays about 55% of long term care. When you apply for Medicaid they can look back 5 years at any assets you have or have had. There are many insurance type products on the market to help with long term and family member care.

A relatively new idea for someone who owns his or her home who may need to look at moving to a nursing home is a Home Equity Home Mortgage sometimes referred to as a reverse mortgage. With this type of mortgage a homeowner puts their home into a trust which then pays a monthly amount to your nursing home. There are possible options with this plan on how it will end and how the proceeds will be divided.

Contact Joy if you need more information about the many options that are available for seniors at 620-663-2232.

Club Announcements

Second Reading; AmTryke: A second reading for an AmTryke for ?? (I missed the name it again) a Wichita referral. Motion passed.

Second Reading; Chamber After Hours: A second reading to spend $500 toward the sponsorship of a Chamber After Hours April 26th. Bob Bush explained that he had donations from members totaling about $1,500 and that the club may not have to spend any money towards this sponsorship. The $500 will cover any shortfall, if needed. Motion passed.

WebMaster Assist: If anyone would like to learn HTML programming to help with posting information on our web-site contact Jack Mace as soon as possible. He will be offering training beginning in the second week of February. We are in a precarious position with only one person knowing our web site. We need at least two back-ups. More would be better. Imagine what might have occurred had Deanna’s health actually “gone south,” or if Jack were in a bad accident. Who would handle the web site; OR even know (and here’s a good question for our Sgt’s to ask on Friday) what server we use to host our site?

Membership Committee meets next Friday at 6:15 AM.
