THE HUTCHINSON CHAPTER OF AMBUCS
NEWSLETTER FOR THE MEETING OF AUGUST 12, 2016
EDITOR: DUKE WIGGINS
GUESTS: NONE!!!
SERGEANTS CORNER: Sgt Knipp and deputy Tom Hymer collected 2 weeks presidential fine from Dorinda, since she missed last week’s meeting. Immediately, VP Thad Bartley, who ran the meeting in Dorinda’s absence, requested the the fine he paid in her behalf be refunded. The Sergeants both laughed and said that was last week’s business, no refund due. Doyle Ehling paid to announce his 65th birthday. We all sang for him, which he appreciated greatly. Guy Gann paid to announce his 45th anniversary to the remarkably patient Bobbie. We did not sing for them, which Guy greatly appreciated. Sgt Knipp’s topic for this day was the2016 Olympics in Rio. Anyone whoresponded that they had watched at least some of the games were exempted from the next fine; those who had not watched any of the games paid a buck. The sergeants then went from table to table trying tofind the correct answers for their questions about the Olympics. They received a few correct answers, but collected lots of dollars.
Presidents report from the August Board Meeting: Two of our national Ambuc scholarship winners missed their opportunityto receive their $1,000 scholarships this year because of timing problems that were not their fault. Based on our current solid cash balance at this time, the board approved $1,000 scholarships for each one. Thad Bartley’s daughter, who had already been granted a $500 for thisyear was given an additional $500 to bring her up to the same level as the others. The membership was asked toratify this action as a one-time action not setting a precedent for the future. Membership approved the action of the board.
There will be a meeting of the BigHat members at 6:30 Friday August 19th to discuss the future of the club.
PROGRAM: Paul Hardenburger gave us an update on the Sweet Shoppe.
