Newsletter 10/12/2012

MEETING: Friday, October 12, 2012 EDITOR: Tom Hymer

WELCOME GUESTS: There were no guests today. Thats very unusual. Perhaps we all can try to invite a guest to visit our club, the most outstanding civic organization in the entire Reno County.

SERGEANTS: Jeff Brewer and his dad Larry Sloan, substitutes for Bob Bush who left a list of charges against members who were innocently attending Oktober Fest, enjoyed taking their money for just being themselves. Other offenders included Brad for an inconvenience tax, Eric for making an early exit, Mark for playing politics, and the rest of the membership who did not participate in the Rod Run, what? However Jim Seitnater was noted for his peace keeping skills, and for Paul twisting his tail, what? Being that Oktober Fest was on everyones mind the sergeants served up some Oktober Fest trivia questions primarily dealing with beer, go figure.

1. PAID ANNOUNCEMENT: Tom Hymer paid a dollar to announce a Big Brothers Big Sisters Luncheon on Tuesday November 27TH. The event will feature the work of BBBS and the difference it makes for the kids by having a mentor. John Montgomery of the Hutchinson News will be the key note speaker. Call Tom 620-727-1821 or thymer@cox.net for more information.

2. PAID ANNOUNCEMENT: Fred Conner, speaking for his group, asked for donations for Head Start. The money will be used to make Christmas presents for the kids in this program.

1. CLUB ANNOUNCENT: President Darren Wicks discussed club fund raisers, noting that Jay Pitzer is receiving calls about Casino nights. As the T-shirt revenue has declined greatly it appears that hosting Casino nights present an opportunity to not only replace that revenue but also generate more. The challenge is the members making the commitment to host the Casino nights on Friday and Saturday nights.

2. CLUB ANNOUNCENT: Jim Jacobs reported on the financials of the Ice Cream Parlor at the State Fair. Net revenue after cost of goods and expenses is $15,256 up $2,000 compared to last year. Good work everyone.

3. CLUB ANNOUNCENT: Doug Foss spoke for the Community Service Committee on two Amtrykes that have been given to two kids, one in Osage City and the other in Linden. In addition the mother of an Amtryke recipient donated $100 at the Fair.

4. CLUB ANNOUNCENT: Craig Johnson urged the members to sign up for the Membership supper on Saturday November 3RD. At this time only a few members have committed to attending this event, so the appeal goes out to everyone, please get behind this event to insure its success.

50/50 DRAWING: Paul Brown won the 50/50 pot of $28 and donated the money to Head Start. NEWSLETTER DRAWING: Dennis Reisers name was drawn but he was not present to claim the prize. For $10 name the two towns where recipients of the two Amtrykes live.
