FINES Dennis Resier with help from Stan Macgirvin were our Sergeants-at-Arms this morning. Paul Brown and Ward Davis were fined for arriving late. Ward was given the option of a $1 fine or $5 for the month. I think he went with the weekly amount. Dean Brigman was fined for not attending the State of the City address as a councilman who should have been there. But I hear his vacation away was very nice. Randall Haltom fined, but I missed why. Curtis Mitchell paid to announce that his last day with Hutchinson Regional Medical Center will be March 23rd and he will be going to work for Mark Borecky Construction as the new Commercial Project Manager. Jerry Regier paid to thank his committee for the outstanding job last week with the State of the City address. He also held an impromptu vote and with overwhelming support our club will host it again next year. Scott Potucek also paid to give special recognition to Jerry Regier and his committee for a job well done!
ANNOUNCEMENTS Welcome David Roe as our newest member of the club as he was sworn in this morning. A sign-up sheet was passed around for the NJCAA Basketball Tournament t-shirt concession work shifts. Check your calendars to see when you will be available to work our second largest fundraiser of the year. The District is looking at our club to supply an Ambility Chairperson and also a District Governor. Contact Curtis Mitchell if you would like to do this or want more information about it.
PROGRAM Jeff Roberson introduced Trent Maxwell, Building Official with the City of Hutchinson. Trent has been with the city for 5 years but has only held this position for 6 months. He is responsible for inspection and code enforcement. Part of which is the Property Maintenance Code, adopted last year, for properties that need repairs or painting. In conjunction with this new code is the Brush Up Hutch program where monetary assistance is available for those who need help to purchase paint to spruce up the exterior of their property. Fourteen structures, both residential and commercial, are scheduled for demolition in 2012 as part of the cities ongoing cleanup effort. There are many downtown building development and restoration projects underway. Several with loft apartments over retail businesses. Many large building projects are in progress such as the new Kohls store, The Arbors assisted living north of the hospital, Midway Motors is planning a facelift both inside and out, Grace Bible Church expansion and the new Fairfield Inn. Trent mentioned that a new 2006 State Fire Code was adopted by the State of Kansas almost without anyone knowing it went through. The city is currently operating under the 2003 code and hopes to get the new code adopted in the next few years. The city is currently in the process of hiring a new building inspector to fill Trents vacated position.
