PROGRAM: Darren Wicks introduced the speakers today, Chris Block and Jennifer Latimer employed by USD 308 Special Education professionals. Their work involves working with children diagnosed with autism. Autism manifests itself in a many different ways, some are verbal, others are non-verbal. There is no known cause or cure although medications like Zoloff and Ridilin are administered. Autism is on the rise with a 30% increase and the cause is unknown. About 1 out of 100 infants will be diagnosed with Autism. At HMS7 there are 5 autistic students under the care of the Chris and Jennifer. Ambucs has donated Amtrykes to USD to use for therapy for the autistic kids. Autistic kids vary greatly in communications, some respond to visual stimulus, others by using objects. I-pads with special programs help the kids to respond with symbols. They talked about a fundraiser which is a Walk Event held in April and they hope that Ambucs will participate.
50/50 DRAWING: Jerry Regier won the 50/50 pot of $29 and donated his winnings to the cause of helping Autistic kids.
NEWSLETTER DRAWING: Jim Kicklighter could have won $25 but he was absent. Next weeks question for $30 is: What is the name of our Ambucs district governor?
