There is some renovation projects taking place at the Zoo, some of which are improvements for animal quarters and visitor viewing. For example new facilities are in progress for the otters which are a popular attraction. A raccoon and possum exhibit is being planned to prevent the critters from digging out under ground. The Zoo is funded by the City of Hutchinson. Friends of Zoo run the gift shop and the train rides. Currently admission to the Zoo is free, but there was some discussion that a small gate fee should be in place. 47,00 people visit the Zoo annually. A little known secret of the zoo is the fertilizer generated by the animals. It is available to the public. Gardeners regard the llama manure as the best. Thanks to Jana Durham for a zooper program. http://www.hutchgov.com/department/division.asp?fDD=18-98
