Guests: Peter Miller, our speaker for today, guest of Jim J; Jim Gruver of Gruver Construction and Cabinet Connections, guest of Jerry R; Dennis Schamber, VP of Farmers National Bank, guest of Dan P; Dean Brigman brought his wife Sherra; Jim Jacobs brought his wife Kristen; Kelan, Julie and Brooke Young, guests of the club.
Sergeant’s Playground: The club initiated its newest sergeant, Colby Davis, who assisted his Dad, Ward. Colbys trusty driver, Darren W, steered him around traffic. Jerry R paid an advertising tax for parking his decorated vehicle in front of Allies all week. Eric S paid $2, one for being late again, and one for his first new pickup. He said he was lucky to have any money left after paying his taxes and registration fees. Colby seems to be very adept at catching President Mitchell sleeping during the meeting. The president mumbled something about just resting his eyes, but nobody bought that excuse. Lastly, Ward fined all persons who were not wearing red, white, and blue on the first day of the 3-day July 4th weekend.
Announcements: Bob Bush announced that Budweiser is sponsoring the Hutch Monarchs game on Saturday evening, donating a bunch of tickets for Ambucs to use to get in free. Pick several up as you leave. Preston reported that the Community Service approved two more Amtrykes to be presented in the near future.
AMTRYKE Presentation: Doug F and Ryan T presented Brooke Young with her new Amtryke. She was so excited and managed to steer through the tables to show us how she could handle herself. Her Amtryke even has her name on it. Her mother, Julie, was very generous with her praises for what our club does and how much difference it makes in Brookes life. Good riding Brooke.AMTRYKE Presentation: Doug F and Ryan T presented Brooke Young with her new Amtryke. Program: Peter Miller is the Manager of the Hutchinson Municipal Airport. He grew up in Salina and admitted that he and his father were hanger rats. Their favorite pastime was exploring the hangers at the Salina Airport. He has been at his job for almost 10 years and claims he couldnt ask for a better career to fit his interest. He spoke briefly about the history of the Hutchinson facility. The land was donated to the city by the Carey family, the runways were built by the Navy, and the current building was built by the city in 1962. The facilitys operations are funded by the leases on the restaurant and Wells Aircraft and through the citys annual budget as part of the Parks and Facilities division. Major project funding comes from the FAA, the current one involving relocating 4th street to meet FAA safety requirements. The economic impact on Hutchinson and Reno County amounts to 169 jobs with an annual payroll of $5.3 million for a total output of $15.2 million. Thanks to Peter for an informative and interesting program.
Drawings: The 50/50 pot of $35 went to Jerry Dalton, who donated it to the Young family. The Newsletter question went unanswered since Randy H. left early. Sorry Randy!!!
