HUTCHINSON AMBUCS NEWSLETTER Duke Wiggins, Editor
Guests of the club this week were Clara Kilbourn of the Hutchinson News, hosted by Scott Potucek and Rebeca Sandoval-Kennedy, hosted by Randy Henderson & our program for today.
Sergeants for this morning were Larry Sloan and Dennis Reiser who immediately fined Duke W for his screw-up in the newsletter for last week. Scott P carried the toilet last week, not Randy H. $1 for bad note-taking. Apparently Mr. Reiser hid from the rest of us at food time, so Larry fined everyone for eating before the Deputy. This is a cheap trick that cant work every week, so make sure you know who the Sgts are before venturing through the food line. Bill L returned with the Tuit, fining Scott S, Doug F, and Jay P for not paying their respects. Then Bill held a drawing to determine who wins the Tuit for the week. Jeff Brewer, who claims he has never had his name drawn for the Newsletter Question, finally had his chip pulled from the bag. Lucky Jeff goes home with the Tuit. Several members paid their $1 to make announcements during Tuit-Time. Jerry Regier needs volunteers for the Rod Run over the July 4th weekend. Contact Jerry or log on to www.hutchrodrun.com to sign up. Scott P paid his fine to announce that our AMTRYKE trailer would be at the Rod Run thanks to Jerry donating a space. We will need volunteers to man or woman the trailer, so see Scott if you are interested. Brenda Janda paid her $1 to announce the Open House for Good Samaritans Rehab Unit.
An AMTRYKE was presented to Destin Hopkins, who was accompanied by his guardians Glenn & Maime Wise of Eldorado, KS. Destin was tested and recommended for his AMTRYKE by Sara Willis, his therapist at Wesley Hospital. This AMTRYKE was provided by the Al Strecker Fund.
President Rick reported several recommendations from this mornings Board of Directors meeting. They recommended committing to a $500 contribution to a district fund to pay for the updating of the AMTRYKE trailer. The specifics of how and when the contribution will be made will be discussed at a future meeting, at which time the membership will act on this recommendation. Ray Schoonover, who traveled many miles to help start this chapter, is extremely ill and may have a short time to live. The board approved a $500 contribution to a membership fund to be established in Rays name. Plaques were presented to Randy Henderson and Jay Pitzer, as they will represent our District at the Regional Meeting prior to the National Convention in July as Project Chair of the Year and Ambuc of the Year respectively. Preston C reminded everyone that the membership promotion meeting for the Air Capital Chapter in Derby will be on June 19th, and indicated he would like to see a number of our members in attendance to support their efforts.
Our guest speaker for today was introduced by Randy Henderson. Rebeca Sandoval-Kennedy is the Clinical Director for St. Francis Community Services Outpatient Clinic. She graduated from HCC and Bethany College with a B.X. in both Social Work and Administration of Justice. She received her Masters of Social Work from Newman University. In 2008 she graduated from Mid America Nazarene University with a certificate in Play Therapy. She operates the Kennedy Counseling & Play Therapy Center at 2 East 12th in Hutchinson. Rebeca centered most of her program on the concept of Play Therapy and how it is used in her counseling sessions. She offered several examples of how children act out their inner feelings that cannot be expressed verbally. This allows her to work through these issues with the child.
Drawings: 50/50 was won by Anita W, who took home $30.
Newsletter Opportunity went to Luke M, who was not in attendance.Pot goes to $25 next week.
Newsletter Question for next week Name both local members who received District awards at this meeting and what honor was bestowed on them.
Future Meetings: June 18th HPD Captain Troy Hoover, hosted by Randy Henderson; June 25th Marc Blackim of the Hutchinson Monarchs, hosted by Randy Hendrickson.
