GUESTS
Randy Henderson successfully (finally) introduced Steve Lehman and Rose Alderson of Reno Valley After School Program.
TUIT REPORT
A fairly uneventful week for Manuel Bruch and the Tuit. While digging a pond, no one
stopped by to help so Manuel paid his $ and gave it to Rod Fry. Good luck Rod!
PROGRAM:
Steve Lehman and Rose Alderson helped us become aware of what it takes to run a nationally recognized After School Program. The Reno Valley After School Program for middle school aged children is one of four to receive a national grant. They are creating parent and community awareness through many after school activities. In their 3 years of this program, they have 100% teacher participation and 92% student involvement. Sounds like they are creating a very positive environment for middle schoolers.
Club Announcements
Second reading for the following requests: Board recommends approving all of these.
Bryan Carlton Request: Interfaith housing is remodeling Bryan’s house to accommodate his wheel chair. They need $43,000. Committee recommends $1,000. Don Grossardt challenged the club to match an extra $250. Dan Power jumped on that challenge! Way to go!
Jessica Humphrey request: She is blind and deaf due to a degenerative form of Muscular Dystrophy. She needs software to help her communicate. This request came through TECH. Committee recommends $500.
TECH wish list: TECHs wish list is for computer lab hardware and software totaling $5,807. Committee recommends $2,500.
Other Business:
Budget: AMBUCS Budget for this year has been approved.
Ice Cream Booth: Brad Thompson told us that after a hard evenings work the ice cream booth is ADA accessible. This Monday he needs muscle to move the freezers.
Jennifer Shingleton Request: 16 month old son, Skylar, born with webbed fingers and toes needs several surgeries in Kansas City. She is requesting funds for travel expenses and lost wages. Committee recommends $500.
Scholarship requests: Sarah Johnson and Heather Hice both have received national scholarships. Committee recommends a $500 local scholarship for both.
District Amtyke Trailer: Doug Foss reported that the district clubs would like to combine forces to purchase a Mobile Demonstration Site trailer. The trailer cost is about $2,900 and each club would be asked to contribute an equal amount.
AMBUCS Regional Convention: Doug Foss and Don Grossardt talked about events for the upcoming regional convention Sept. 24-25 at Salina. They will provide a session for $20 about educating people on Amtrykes. Also discussed was manning a booth to sell t-shirts with the Salina chapter.
FINES
Paul Brown pinch hit for Bob Bush while his sidekick Steve Harmon manned the pot. Paul started by announcing that since Greg West can’t putt, fines could be double. Things quickly went downhill. First fine to Randy Henderson for the magazine picture. Then Lori Hopp pointed out something behind Paul and was fined. Nancy Ditges got in trouble about being topless in the paper. I tried to find out more but that issue was sold out. Vicki Fultz was fined ironically for trying to buy friends by not sitting at the head table. Plus Brad Thompson lost some of his Vegas profits. Late fees for Duke Wiggins, Rick Mitchell, Kevin McCarthy, and Tom Hymer. Several tables were fined for not studying their vocabulary lessons.
