Program:

Four AMTRYKES were delivered to truly grateful recipients.

Austin Cozell, age 5, was the first of the AMTRYKE drivers. Austin was present with his mother, Becky, his teacher at Park Elementary, Jan Ebmeier and a reporter from the Lyons News, Crystal Hoffman. Ms. Ebmeier recounted her attempts to obtain a tricycle for Austin through the school system and inmate assistance without success. When she remarked about the need in her Sunday school class, Tom Hymer was present with the AMBUC solution.

AMTRYKE No. 2 went to Ebben Miller, age 3. Ebben was present with his grandparents, George and Loretta Schmelzle, his brother, Taylor and his buddy, Caleb. One year ago, Ebben could not sit upright or walk. The Miller family is from Goddard and learned about AMBUCS through Wesley Hospital.

AMTRYKES Nos. 3 & 4 were given to Park Elementary and Wesley Hospital to assist in the therapy needs of others.

Hutchinson Community at Large

In the past few months, we have all watched with interest and anxiety as one or another American was taken hostage or harmed in Iraq. Several months back, three Christian Peacemaker Team (CPT) members one American and two Canadians were taken hostage while pursuing non-war peace issues and threatened with death. One, an American, died due to undisclosed causes while in captivity. The other two, Canadians, were released just a few weeks ago.

CPT raises the question, “What would happen if Christians devoted the same discipline and self-sacrifice to nonviolent peacemaking that armies devote to war?” They are currently sending representatives around the country to various communities to explain their work and to answer questions. Two CPTers will be at First Mennonite Church, 52 Rambler Rd, here in Hutchinson on Saturday evening, April 29 to present a program. The meeting is open to the public. Anyone can serve with CPT in many different places around the world.

One of the CPTers who will be presenting here in Hutch on Saturday has served an assignment in Iraq, and will soon be going back.

If you would like to attend, can call First Mennonite Church at 662-9385 for time and other information.
